Unsurprisingly this is in the USA, but it shows how these disputes can run and run, and rack up the $$$ in fines and so on. If the pickup was a rotten hulk on axle stands then I could, maybe, better understand the local authority's grievances (even though I probably wouldn't agree with them), but really it's just a roadworthy old vehicle with a bit of patina (real or otherwise).

Amazing.
I would move out as I would not want to live in a neighborhood where you are only allowed pristine cars. Bah!

Hi
That will be the same sort of place where the lawn grass has to be kept between 10mm and 20mm.

Before moving back to the U.K., I used to own a home in a gated community in the USA and this sort of restriction is commonly written into the documents when you purchase a property, there - and residents expect themselves and their neighbours to abide by the rules... The HOA (Home Owners' Association comprising a board of directors of fellow home-owners elected by the residents) is set up to keep people in line with what the majority of people want for their community...so this is no surprise to me. Most communities have restrictions (call them covenants) against such vehicles as pick-up trucks even brand-new ones (too 'redneck'), trailers (a.k.a. caravans, also redneck [=blue collar/working class]), RVs (motorhomes), boats, on or off a trailer and washing lines! It helps to keep the quality of the neighbourhood and property values in place. It's the American way. Some Americans who live in uncontrolled areas with no HOA can hoard ungodly amounts of cr*p in their front yards and it really is an eyesore.

Under the circumstances, given the country it's taking place in and consideration towards his neighbours, I guess he is asking for trouble!
