The 46th Historic Vehicle Gathering was held in the meadows surrounding the historic Powderham Castle on the 13th and 14th July 2019. The weekend is organised by the Crash Box & Classic Car Club of Devon. Last years event was the biggest in the Club’s history and raised £21,000 for charities.

The show offers something for all petrolhead’s (and not forgetting steam!) – whatever your passion in transport, you will find plenty at this show to keep you interested.

The Crash Box & Classic Car Club was founded in 1964 and has in excess of 500 members and organises many events throughout the year, with the Powderham Show being the jewel in the crown.

I attended the show on Saturday. The weather was ideal – warm but overcast. There was probably well over a 1000 cars, bikes and commercial vehicles on display – and a large collection of steam engines. Many of the vehicles took part in parades around the show ring at various times throughout the day – this was particularly impressive when the steam engines took to the ring!

Many local car clubs had large displays – various MG clubs, Triumph Stag Owners Club, Porsche Owners Club, Jaguar, TVR to name but a few.

There was also representation from the dealerships – Dick Lovett Aston Martin of Bristol had a pair of AM DBS Superleggera’s on display – one black and one white – powered by a 5.2 litre V12, maximum speed 211mph – awesome!...but the DB5 was more stunning.

Berrybrook Motors, the Morgan dealer, had a large display of cars including a rare Aero Super Sports – powered by a BMW 4.8 litre V8 - and an Aero 8, as well as the more well known Plus 4. Also on show, one of the quirkiest new cars money can buy....a three wheeler! Where it all started for Morgan – first produced in 1909. It is powered by a 1983cc S&S V-Twin motor bike engine mated to a Mazda 5 speed gearbox. Morgan celebrates its 110 year anniversary in 2019.

In addition to the vehicles on display, there was also a big selection of trade stands, and the all important auto jumble for those restoring or trying to keep their classics in fine fettle.

This is definitely a show not to miss.

We used to take a vehicle down to Powderham each year, did it with a lorry the last few times. Due to other commitments we havent been for about the last three years.

Always a very nice show.

It is a lovely show, just too many things on at the same time for us really. Also, its a bit too far for us to drive the old lorries now.
