Dear friends

I'm a local history researcher, and this photo of Willington, south Derbyshire, in surely the early 1900s, has come to light. Please can anyone identify the car?

Grateful thanks

Tony

Very grateful for the identification. And I see that all the first model A version came out of the factory in red!

And much closer to home Wink

Whether that's the car in the original poster's message, I'm not sure though.

Does not look like a Model A to me. I am more inclined towards something more like a Wolseley. It might be an aberration of the photograph, but there seems to be a horizontal tubular radiator on the car, and IMHO it is rather too large and heavy looking to be a Ford.

Have a look at the cars here-
https://www.google.com/search?channel=crow&q=Image+1903+Wolseley&tbm=isch&source=univ&client=firefox-b-d&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwip7oqqg9fjAhVOfysKHWikCBIQsAR6BAgJEAE

But there were quite a few cars of that period with the horizontal tube radiators. Take no notice of headlamps. they were always an option extra or after-market item.

I'm with Dane on this one; it looks to me like a Wolseley.

I think its a Darraque (sp), as in Genevieve?

The pre-1904 Darracq had gill-tube radiator, from 1904-on ones like Genevieve had the new style radiator with plated surround, but both had a horizontal bonnet top; the mystery car has a tapered bonnet top just like a pre-1903 Wolseley (but I wouldn't be surprised if other cars didn't also have a similar bonnet line).

I think some of you should get together and write a book. The depth of knowledge here, especially on the early cars, is astounding, and will be lost in time as we shuffle off this mortal coil. Hat's off to you folks.

I pointed out that the car was not a Ford. The Model A had a dashboard but no true bonnet. The tubular radiator was set quite low and would have been almost invisible in that photo.

In the period many makes had the horizontal tubular radiators, and a bonnet covering a front mounted engine. I suggested Wolseley as an example, but similar designs came from Sunbeam, Panhard, Renault, Dennis and De Deitrich to name a few.
