I know some people who focus their old-car activities to a particular marque or model only, whereas others dabble with all manner of vehicles from makes popular and obscure. Do you have any preferences, sticking to a particular vehicle or maker, or do many different makes appeal to you - sufficient for you to consider owning an example of?

Many makes for me, too, although there is a certain comfort in working on familiar cars!

There's a lot to be said for sticking to one car, or multiple examples of one car - eg acquiring servicing knowledge, finding and storing parts etc. Not that I've ever been so focused!

I do particularly like Pre-war / early post-war Hillmans, but I also own a pre-war Ford and do like Singers/Vauxhalls of that age too.

I would never like to say no to a pre-war car in my garage!

I am primarily an Austin man, although I am quite happy with my Chrysler lurking in the garage with the Austin’s.

Its weird being the same age as old people.
You are either part of the problem or part of the solution

I like other marques but I stick to one Rover (4 Rovers 2 Land Rover with one exception a 1968 Mini Traveller. The interchangeability of parts even with the Mini is handy!

Not only have I stuck to one particular marque (Vauxhall), I've also stuck with two specific cars. I have hoarded parts for years, which has started to pay off now that things are much more difficult to find. I've also built up a fair bit of experience in working on them, which I am noticing more now that I have started restoring a car of a different make.

I have more recently been thinking of getting something else, partly for the variety. I was at Brightwells auction yesterday in Leominster as a mate was selling a car, and it was interesting to sit in a variety of cars that I wouldn't normally have access to. I learned a few things (a Ferrari 308GTS doesn't have enough headroom for me with the roof panel fitted, so I'd have to have a GTB or move to somewhere where it never rains) and saw some nice cars (and some tarted-up stuff).

Before I buy something else, though, I remind myself that I hardly use the cars I've got, and wonder when I'd actually use something else a bit more. Also if I bought something easier to get along with*, would that mean I'd use the Vauxhalls even less?

(* And I understand that most of you reading are wondering how I can describe a car from the 1970s with seat belts, suspension, windows and a heater that will happily cruise all day at motorway speeds as anything other than "easy to get along with".)

Many marques for me, although I have a special place for Triumph. But there are so many great cars out there!

Most marques in the past, but only the Green Oval for many years now.
But if we have to give up caravanning, I could then be tempted by the Big Cat!

My interest lies with all makes around the world during the 1930s and 1940s. I'm actually working on a book of all WWII-era passenger cars and derivatives, with mild overlaps at either end (say, 1935-1950 or so).
