Hi,

This old Mk1 Consul reminds me of the brush-painted example that an elderly neighbour of ours owned, back in the 1970s. He'd regularly zoom off up the road while we were outside, playing on bikes or whatever, and when he'd returned home, he'd park up and hang a wooden panel off the back of the Ford, in his driveway. Why he did this I never really understood. According to dad, a few years earlier he'd also hang similar panels down either side of the car. Perhaps he expected a horde of angry bison to thunder by at any moment, I've no idea.

Today's ebay find looks tidy enough, although the headlamp peaks wouldn't last the journey home, and I think I'd look at making it all-over brown rather than the two-tone scheme it sports at present. Still, a rare survivor in anyone's book.

I suspect it was the cream that was the original colour although it might have been like my brother in law's Zodiac.
