First thoughts were a pre First World War Morgan, but the single chain drive and rear starting handle / kick start suggests a rear/mid-engined machine, so I'll go for an AC Sociable. The registration number is a Lindsey (North Lincolnshire) one. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

I see what looks like an SS Jaguar at the very end.

old photo of the wharf in our little town most likely taken in the 1930 maybe earlier
I showed this photo to a old car friend and he said he saw a photo taken by one of the photographers on the wharf at the same time.
cheers

Looks like quite an occasion. Perhaps a rather larger ship than normal has arrived?

By the number of cameras pointed at the ship, it must be something out the ordinary. MV "Princess Charlotte" ? |

this photo of the Princess Beatrice was taken the same day.
I'm not sure of its sailing schedule but any time it would arrive everybody that could make it turned up for the big show. Everything brought into this little valley came by boat or pack horse, until the road linked us up to the rest of British Columbia in 1953.

That's an interesting machine!
It obviously dates from the late 1940s or very early 1950s, and looks to be a very professional effort, but I've never seen it before. The gear lever looks to be late 1930s Standard - possibly Fourteen or Twenty - and the radiator grille suggests the car was probably called Tulip _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

Perhaps no great mystery. I'm just curious.

One can always tell they are in the U.S.A, by the bullet holes. |

This query arrived via email earlier in the week ....
"Hi
I’ve just discovered your site and found it fascinating, and I wondered if you may be able to help to identify the car in the attached picture. I apologise for the quality, but it is a scan of a print in a newspaper, and is the only source we have.
The couple in the picture are my wife’s great great grandfather (1824 – 1918) and his wife (died 1908).
The story we have is that the guy in the picture who lived in Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire and his son took the train up to Coventry, bought the car and taught himself to drive by the simple expedient of driving it back to Berkhamsted. This made him the second car owner in the town, the first one being the Doctor.
We know that they were living in the house illustrated from 1891, and that she died in 1908, which gives a time frame to work with. Family history, which should always be taken with a large pinch of salt, has it that the car was a Benz, but we have no documentary evidence.
If you or your readers could shed any light on this we would be extremely grateful
Many thanks
Allen" _________________ Rick - Admin

It is almost certainly an c1898-99 'Benz Velo'; the trouble is Karl Benz licensed the production to numerous manufacturers - Star in Wolverhampton being one. But if he collected the car from Coventry it may have been built by another local company. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline
