Anyone into slot car racing?
I have an Artin 1/32, 2 & 4 lane that I'll be setting up soon. For lack of space it'll be a small layout to start.
I have a few vintage slot cars. A Monogram Scarab sports car form the 60's and 3 or 4 Eldon Indy Roadsters from the same period.

My pride and joy racing set is my 60's vintage JC Penney/Marx Indianapolis Special set.
I had this set as a kid and was able to locate the exact set on ebay a few years ago. It's in near mint condition and complete and still works! Very Happy

I'm still looking for 3 other cars that I used to have.
I think all were made by Cox and from the mid 60's. Chaparral with braking wing, Lotus F1 4-wheel drive and a Cheetah.

I'm also into HO railroading and will be building the Granite Gorge & Nothern 5x9 layout. Wish I could do these layouts bigger but am limited to a 11'x17' basement space.

Here is the Marx Indianapolis Special Speedway. Dated 1964.
Makes a 3'x8' over/under figure 8 layout with banking on one end.
It's in very good to excellant condition and cars run well though had to buy new tires due to age and hardness.

The #4 is a Kurtis Roadster and the #8 is a Watson Roadster.

Stuchamp, the artwork on the box looks great, and a like the shape of those cars! I've got some old boxed Scalextric around the place, some with cars and others not. I found a couple of boxed sets at a car boot sale yesterday, but they are quite bulky things to store and were duplicates of what I've got, so I carried on walking!! one was from the 70s, and the other early 60s at a guess.

Anyone remember the commercial slot car racing setups of the late 60s?
They were made by AMF, the same people that make tenpin bowling machines. They would come as a small console enclosed 2 lane unit.
A 4 lane 59ft and an 8 lane 155ft they had drivers stations with seats, accellerators and steering wheels. Unbelievably the steering was a very inportant feature because on each bend the power supply was seperated and fed through switches on the steering unit and if you did not steer accurately you would loose speed, and even stop, on the bends.
The cars had 'T' shaped pickup pegs to prevent them flying off the track but the drivers station could be by-passed with a conventional hand control allowing the track to be used by enthusiasts cars with conventional pickup pegs.
