Have you tried going shopping to the supermarket in it Rick?!
Imagine the faces!!

No chance of getting dings from careless people in that!!

Would need a bit of shunting to get in and out of the carpark by the sound of it, you know how tight these places are nowadays. I daresay the official line is that it stops boyracers going nuts in them, but my personal theory is that the carparks are designed by people with interests in bodyshops who want as many crunched wings as possible... Yes it'd be a squeeze to get into any local supermarket car park (the thought had occurred to me though...). Plus I don't really trust other drivers - of cars and of shopping trolleys!

I watched the auction of the Alfa online this afternoon, alas I was outbid Wink it sold for £5.3m plus commission. Hope it went to a UK buyer.

The car features on the Daily Mail of all places today, not entirely accurate but interesting photos:

Is that red overspray on the bracketry under the side-mounted oil cooler?

I bet the new owner of the alfa would love a period correct transporter to go with his new toy!

Afternoon all,

Things have been quiet-ish on the Dodge front of late. Today, being Drive It Day, seemed like a good opportunity to dust the old girl down and give her another gentle (local) run out, to park up at a local vintage garage and spectate on the Cheshire Run - a run specifically for old-ish commercial vehicles.

Photos of the Run to follow, but for this thread, a few photos of the jolly green giant and its more compact close relation Smile

Overall the drive went ok, there are one or two gremlins still here and there but the basics seem about right now.

I was moving a few bits for one today.

Anything else still needed for Bess, except spare rims. Ever get that brush guard straightened ?

Haven't attended to the brush guard yet, still focusing on the essentials right now whenever I get a mo.

Funnily enough, while waiting for the Jaguar's MOT last week, I had a peer into some long grass in the far corner of the garage's yard. Sat there looking sad was a 20" 10-stud wheel (and ropey tyre). The stud pattern and centre opening look suspiciously close to that of Bess' wheels. The rest of the wheel isn't an exact match, but if the centre is correct and there's no terminal rot beneath the old leaves etc then it may just do as a spare.

The plan is to pop back with a few dimensions shortly, and see what transpires, the garage owner is happy for me to have it if it'll do the trick.

I wonder what the chances of finding a two-speed rear axle would be in this country? It'd really benefit from a raising of the gearing.

The two speed rear is a red herring. It gives you another complete gear set, but it is SLOWER than the standard one. It's an under-drive, not an over-drive

As mentioned in Mike's Elephant pub thread, the Dodge was driven over there yesterday. The drive over went without a hitch, there was some evidence of fuel starvation - for the first time in quite a while - during the return trip, so there are a few things to check over again.

Overall though, a good day out.

Evening G, the 1/2 ton at the local garage currently has its back axle in pieces. Do you know of a good used diff to suit a 47 WC anywhere in the UK? or perhaps better a NOS CW&P, 4.1 to 1 is what's fitted currently (dated Feb 1947)?

thanks, RJ.

I did sell one on a truck, and another in bits, but neither was that great. Buyer would want ££££ for the rough truck so not much of a deal.

The Yahoo Group, or Vintage Power Wagons? I do know none of the military stuff will swap in, and other Chrysler product of the period had similar / same axle, but that's it.

Rick,

What is the problem with your current axle? Are you looking to change the ratio or is it just noisy? If the latter have you tried resetting the tooth meshing?
