Went up to the Lake District today to collect a one-off pedal car, another shrewd purchase by yours truly Smile picked that up mid morning (bit of a squeeze in the back of the car along with our chubby old mutt) and headed over to Holker Hall, for the motor museum that they have there.

Really interesting place, half of it is shiny cars and memorabilia, plus a 'vintage garage' section where theres lot of dusty old bikes, some cars, tools and so on, and a few old motors outside including a big old caravan. Really worth going if you find yourself in the south Lakes, near Grange.

After that we pootled up to Windermere then came back home. We took it in turn to push each other around the drive on the new pedal car, just to test it out, and it seems to steer and run ok. In fact its been built by an engineer-type bod, the back axle is a crankshaft from something, operated by pedal rods, and the steering is performed by a miniature car-like steering box, so looks quite a neat job. I wonder if its been taken from some small vehicle, perhaps an electric thing that would have been used on a railway platform for shunting luggage about. Will get some pics on here shortly. All in all a good day out!

These are the best days out - just doing little stuff and no pressure to get it done. Cool

Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Very Happy

its quite an odd-ball little machine, but someone has put it together knowing what they were doing..

Its surprisingly large, which meant we could fit on it ourselves, and also meant it was a squeeze in the back of the car...

I don't think it'd take much to make it look like a miniature version of the old specials that used to race in hillclimbs, or that appear now in VSCC meetings - it just needs a bit of paneling at the back and some extra bits. I've got an old wooden sporty steering wheel that could go on, and I should be able to find some ancient bicycle lamps that would fit on the front and be about the right scale. Other ideas include fitting a vintage seat (I have something that would do the trick), a simple dash with old clocks in it, and perhaps an outside exhaust sticking out from the 'bonnet' side panels. A simple set of grille slats on the front would look ok I think, and maybe a small badge or mascot on the top of the 'radiator' Rolling Eyes

Whatever, it'll look good displayed in the back of an old pickup!

While we were up in the Lakes, we also popped in to this steam railway nr Newby Bridge, had some good views of the local steamer, and a fine Diamond T truck outside the engine shed Cool

Will dig out some pics of the Lakeland museum now..

Hi

I was looking at the pedal car and the first thing I thought of was lawnmower engines! Then I have seen Ricks last post!

Would be quite easy to make a engine powered car, with nice exhaust, maybe belt driven, or if you are feeling lucky chain! Nice seat and paneling, you could make a replica scale version of the Alfa to go in the Dodge, be quite comical going to a historic meet in the Dodge and driving a scale model out!!

Cheers

Hi

I like the look of the museum too, will have to get over to that one, maybe once I have a new runaround! Or in the mini, on a nice weekend camping trip!

I just love the smell of steam stuff, bet from where you took that picture you got a good wiff!

Cheers

A few years ago I picked up a replica fibreglass Austin Pathfinder body and decided to build my grandson an electric car. I looked around and managed to buy a 'Battricar' invalid buggy in working order to graft the pathfinder body to.
To cut a long story short, my grandson grew up during the time I was making up my mind how to do it.
I recently sold the pathfinder body on ebay, but still have the dismantled battericar if anyone is brave enough to attempt a similar project?

Gillberry - Yes, I really enjoyed the spin in this little car, got my jeans full of tyre rubs/marks but it was well worth it!!! Laughing

It left two huge turning circles in the gravel which can still be seen today!! Shocked
