Hmm the faded maroon one would take an epic amount of work to get right - the suspension alone is packed with joints and rubber bushings, all of which have to be spot-on for an XJ to drive as it should. Anything is retrievable of course, but ideally the body should at least be solid in my opinion, and if possible with a quiet running engine sat under the bonnet, and presentable trim inside.

The white one has potential too, although that rot near the front screen would worry me - whats it like beneath that panel, ie the top corner of the bulkhead? it may be a screen out job to fix properly. I don't think I've seen an XJ rot there. The rest of the body looks a bit bubbly, and despite being MOTd could end up needing as much work as the shabby maroon one over time.

well worth having a look at. The 2.8s often seem to be less abused than 4.2s, I think they were bought by people who preferred to amble, rather than charge, up and down the motorways. Problems with melting pistons in the 2.8s should no longer be a problem from what I've read in the Jaguar books.

hmmm bit weird that the logbook says Daimler, yet every badge (even inside the car and on the cam covers) says Jaguar, plus it has some chrome rim clocks, and some painted black. Might be a bit of a bitsa? the talk of an engine swap at some time makes we wonder a bit about this one..

Manual trans 4.2 and free tax? Who cares if it's a bitsa, can be cured but not necessarily a problem.

Period Wolfies will sell on E-Bay if reqd ( my own S1 had S3 / XJS GKN's on it and I loved the look!). The rot it has got does look more severe than it says in the blurb (cutting it out will give a lot of quite big holes and a piebald appearence Crying or Very sad ) but it is one to view if it's not too far away, even if only to be sure!

Yeah wheels and stuff are easy to change. The car is registered on the V5C as a Daimler - but the only Daimler things I see there are the logbook, and the wide-pleated seats (the S1 Jaguars had narrower pleats). Everything else is "Jaguar" - cam covers, exterior badges, grille, badge next to the heater controls etc.

Was a Daimler comprehensively re-badged into a Jaguar? and then re-engined?

I just wonder, probably wrongly, whether the logbook and car have been together since day 1?? mmmmm Question

Hi
Something just occured to me reading that last ad.

If a vehicle hasn't been declared SORN, but doesn't have a current VED disk.
Who is responsible for the intervening tax, if it is sold and the new owner trys to tax it from the date of purchase?

Theoretically, the previous registered keeper:- but they don't seem to bother unless it's a few months out.

You may have a point there Rick, I just think there will be a few around like that, but a manual trans S1 is a VERY desirable XJ6:- in the sellers defence, he does say it was a originally a 2 Litre Daimler (presumably 2.8 Rolling Eyes ) and was re-engined. I wondered if just the grille was changed on the bonnet (the centre strip doesn't go all the way to the front, although is probably STILL shorter than the Daimler's Shocked ) as well as the rear badge and the other small differences? Someone on E-bay was selling all the parts to change a Sovereign S-Type into a Jaguar 420, but I thought £350 was a bit steep for two badges and a smaller grille! Wink

As for the S1 Daimler/Jag, agreed a lot can happen in 30+ years, just makes me wonder a bit Smile

Was reading a book about S1s last night, I really must Not go looking at them for sale anywhere!

wonder what this S2 V12 is like? stored away for 20 years - if it was dry stored it might be ok...
