Nice collection Rick. I very rarely come into this part of the forum so have missed this post but like you I collect motoring related books and magazines.

I have thousands, I'll take a few pic's and post them on here later.

Hi

Just been watching a big book with fold out diagrams of vintage cars, on ebay, but have just over the last hour or two, begun to feel a bit ill, achey and a big head ache, so sitting in the dark, picked the laptop up, just remembering the book, and it had thankfully gone for more than I wanted to spend.

Was saved that time! Laughing

Going to go and sleep for 20mins before I have to drive to Shrewsbury! Sad

Cheers

Dave

This arrived in the post recently, dating to 1934. All seems so innocent and pleasant doesn't it!! Although I'm sure times were hard for most folk back then, it must have had plenty of upsides to it..not least a fine choice of pedal cars for the well-to-do child Smile

And this one, probably from the 20s, is also a recent buy. Is that an Austin char-a-banc on the cover?? Smile

I don't have many really old books as most of my interest is in the 1920s and '30s. My oldest is probably a 1914 edition of the Contour Road Map of Britain which gives nice little cross sections of principal routes showing the steepness of hills.

Apart from the '20s and '30s I do like some of these sets of books that give very fundamental engineering information on straightening chassis and con rods and everything else that was done to maintain the crumbling vehicle stock that Britain had just post war. All tasks executed by the local garage or blacksmiths.

Hi

I have a couple of the road contour maps, great things. I like the sound of your other books for the maintenance of cars in those dificult times!

Cheers

Hi Dave,

The maintenance books I was refering to are in two sets. Pigtin has already mentioned the Newnes "Motor Repair" set and the other one I quite like is the Caxton "The Modern Motor Engineer"

If you don't already have them, they are quite easy to find at autojumbles and they don't appear to be very popular thus cheap. Perhaps people just can't be bothered carrying back to the car.

e.g. £16.50 for the 5 volume set
