Hello everyone,
Been a member of this great site for a while now, but only get chance to have a quick look through, so thought I'd better make the effort to post something of what I am currently up to.
So here are some pictures of the Engine I am Re-building from out of my 1956 Ford Popular 103e

Engine out & partially dismantled.I have had the car for nearly 8 years now and even though running perfectly well, it was starting to burn more oil than petrol so it was time for an overhaul.

Thought I might get away with perhaps a hone out new rings etc. but no!
So far it has had New Clutch,Crank Re-ground, a re-bore, new Pistons and also needs new conrods so these will have to wait until after Christmas and are going to be machined to take 'Shells' rather than the White-Metal.
Thank you for looking,
Greg
Oh yes there were some teeth missing from the starter ring-gear!!

I watched Scrapheap Challenge on TV this evening, and spied a Pop on top of a stack of cars Shocked don't often see them in yards now!

I've seen that too Rick, then I had strange thoughts going through my head like,
'I wonder how much they would want for it' & 'Would like to climb up and have a proper look at that','I could find space for it I'm sure' Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Embarassed Laughing

Thanks for posting Greg, I've gone all nostalgic now for another old Pop as I didn't keep my last one long enough!

I have been looking actually, I wanted to buy one that was on ebay last week, I even asked the vendor for further details with a view to going seeing it but he didn't reply and then suddenly the car was sold so someone obviously beat me to it.

I'd rather like another Austin Somerset too Laughing

I know of a few up in Scotland if you fancy a project! although I guess even running MOT'd cars don't make mega money do they

I let my last one go for £450 and it was as solid an example as you would find, just needed the interior refurbing and the smoky but reliable engine changing/fettling.

Ideally I'd like to find one fitted with the 1500 engine for more go, but any solid roadworthy, or almost roadworthy cars are a consideration. Smile

Scotland means transportation costs on top which renders the cars almost valueless I'm afraid.

It's still not there yet but hopefully soon I will have all the Parts back for re-assembling, can't wait as I really hate the Pop being off the Road.
But thought I would just post some pics of some parts I have re-furbished ready to go back on, as they were a bit worse for wear!
