did you sand blast the lot or did something else??
quite interested how you achieved that finish on alloy parts!!
I spend lots of time and elbow grease doing them by hand!!! |

Hi Dave, the main parts of the Engine are still at the Machine Shop but I'm hoping to find out tomorrow, ( Tuesday), if all their work is done.
Then all that is left is to buy a couple more bits and wait for the Con-Rods to come back from re-furbishment.
After that it's paint the block and re-assemble.
I would like to think within the next Month it'll be back on the road. 
It seems to have taken ages, but what with Christmas and also a change of Job other things obviously have more priority.  |

Hi Bob, the parts in the photo, I just stripped down to the bare casings rubbed them down with a wire brush which got all the old paint off, then cleaned with either 'Brake & Clutch Cleaner' or a 'Gunk' type product. For the 'cast' objects I Hand-Painted with 'Smoothrite' and the tin-ware I used the Spray 'Smoothrite'.
Just a warning if you haven't used 'Smoothrite' before the 'Spray' version and the 'Paint-on' version are not compatible! I did find out the hard way
I hand-painted the oil-filler with a brush and although the finish was good, I wanted it better, so I thought wet-flat it then a coat of spray, it should do the trick. Looked fine first of all, but when I went back to check on it some time later, it had all Pickled-up!!!  
So it was back to bare-metal again!!  |

I'm glad I posted now
Just remembered as well, to clean brushes use their 'Brush-Cleaner' as white spirit doesn't work. Their one seems to be like Nail Varnish-Remover' or something,(not that I use a lot of that of course  ) |

I thought that at the time, so much so that I phoned the 'helpline' number that's on the can to check and they said 'definately not, you can't use the two together'!  |

| Not just lately, the next thing to paint is going to be the Block.....It's going to take ages with the little brush you get in those nail-Varnish' bottles! |

Hi
Go to a beauty salon, they may have bulk bottle, then see if you can spray it, remember to get a job lot of nail varnish remover, incase you need to thin it, and to clean up.

At last! getting nearer to re-assembling the Engine. The work has been done, just got to grind the Valves in, I have painted the Block and the Head.
After a lot of hassle and let-downs with the Con-rods I have managed to get a set of Genuine Ford, New,Old-Stock Rods so just got to take them to the Machine shop to check with the Crank then get a couple more bits and it's ready for putting back together.
.............and yes I am having to do it indoors!....in a forth floor flat!....with NO Lift!
