I've not been idle in the past few weeks, been busy rubbing down the chassis, stripping the brakes and shocks and then painting/restoring it all.

Chassis in matching green

Brake cylinder - 3 of the 4 were able to be reused

I've also rubbed down and painted under the cab to give it a bit of protection for the road and have purchased a few cans of Dynax S50 to spray its all before I use it.

Have also managed to get 2 very good bedsides, bed front and wheels from ebay (from a 53 chevy) at a price far below the cost to buy the metal to fix up mine.

Just waiting for the main order from the USA - anytime in the next week or 2 - to start rebuilding. Still on target for a summer MOT Smile

How are you progressing with this project? Are you still on target for your MoT date?

I've had an 'out of the blue' health issue so have been a bit slower at working and keeping up to things on the computer but things are a bit more settled again and the truck is still on target. In fact the Dr stopping my exercise programme has now left MORE time for the truck.

UPDATE:
*Full brakes, articulating arms, cylinders fitted on all 4 corners. Just awaiting a friend to flare the new pipes.
*Master cylinder re-built
*Rear parking/emergency brake fitted - difficult getting all the parts, but have them now.
*Full re-wire completed and engine ran to test it all worked Smile
*Cab painted internally, dash refurbished and awaiting fitment.
*Picked up a complete 50s bed on ebay (£55!) - the old one was pretty rusty at the bed/side joint - and it has been stripped to the bare metal and is ready for painting. It's 1 1/2 inched wider but it fits well and only those who really know will notice. It also means I can fit a 50's tailgate.
*Exhaust ready for fitting - has been test fitted.

STILL TO GET:
*2 original 16" wheels. I have 5 off 15" originals from a 50's truck - with original baby moon cabs - but really want to get the 16" wheels. Better still would be a full set of 17" artillery wheels - but these would need to come from the USA and they are rare there as well.
*Windshield frame - the original was beyond repair, even for a professional Sad
*Tyres

I'll post up some pics soon.

I've been spraying a few bits - dash etc - using cans and was going to upgrade to a air system. Will post in the equipment forum for what's the best system.

I agree with UJ you're putting people like me to shame with that amount of progress!!! out of curiosity, what was the problem with the windscreen frame - rust?

It's handy being in the garage next to the house - means I can escape for a couple of hours most nights. My father-in-law (Tony) has also moved in with us so I have a live in labourer who loves sandpaper and wire wool which speeds things up Smile

The windshield was rusty, it was held together with 2 'V' brackets which had rusted to the metal frame. Had the glass not been broken it could have been saved, but stripping it to remove the glass showed it as a bit of a t-bag. I have a new one on back order $300! but used ones on ebay are making $325 so not much of an option, other than to wait until early June when they are in stock.

Managed to get a deal for used 16" wheels and a used tailgate last night.

Cheers

Things are still progressing on the truck - trundling towards the August MOT Smile

Windshield frame arrived at last - and was stopped at customs so another £68 on the bill Mad First time any parts have been stopped.

Brakes all working - although they are still slightly spongy so am going to go through the bleed procedure another couple of times with my new one man bleed tube.

Bed all painted and ready to fit.

New headlamps fitted, new tail lights fitted and brake lights fitted (these weren't on the original so a switch had to be fitted to the master cylinder as well)

Cheers

...sometimes just sit in it now going 'broom broom' and dreaming Laughing

Meant to say a big thanks to ukdave2002 for the brake flaring demonstration. I got a kit out of machine mart after never being in at the same time as my mate appeared to flare them for me. The instructions with the kit for double flaring was very poor, but with the info on this site it all made sense and no leaks.

Only other thing I needed to get were new copper crush washers - didn't even know such a thing existed before the truck arrived.

I'll be sticking with it if it all holds up once it's on the road.

Got the new painted dash back together today so getting close to a road test Laughing

Still having a bit of bother getting all the air out of the brakes, will have another go bleeding in a day or 2.

Any pics of your truck?
