The motor is around 20..30 years old and made in the USA - I don't think I stand a chance of getting any parts for it, or if I do, it will take me many hours if not days to track them down - and I'd rather be doing other things, like working on classic cars for people! I'm all for fixing things, in principle, but there are limits when it comes to an unglamorous and worn-out piece of workshop equipment.

So: any ideas, who makes a nice, solid, floor-standing degreaser big enough to clean a cylinder head, engine block, gearbox and the like?

Machine mart do a range of submersible pumps (you literally just throw them in!) for all sorts of use's, would one of those do the job?

I like the idea Dave, but what has stopped me is that these pumps aren't specified for immersion in cleaning fluid - and I don't precisely know what the chemical is, particularly how inflammable or corrosive it is, and neither does my supplier it seems. Mind you, having found my existing submersible pump completely flooded with cleaning fluid and still running (and not having electrocuted me), I may be being over-cautious.

Meanwhile my emergency fix is still working and the people who supply my cleaning fluid are looking out for a secondhand cleaning tank for me, and I've the Machine Mart pump idea to fall back on, so I'll be OK.
