God I love France!
I don't quite know why but I have a real penchant for French cars. Apart from the 2cv and H Vans I have ay various times wanted an early Simca Aronde, a Panhard Dyna or PL17, and a Renault Dauphine!
Of the lot though (2cv exepted) the Simca Aronde has a certain appeal that would see me buying one. |

I know what you mean I came to France and discovered a whole raft of French classics I had never seen, they do have a certain "je ne cest quoi"
I love some of the early Peugeots too.
The flouride and dauphine are lovely looking cars _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com

I posted a link to this thread on here some time back
http://www.forum-auto.com/automobiles-mythiques-exception/section5/sujet152251.htm
It shows abandoned pre 1980 classics mainly in France but also a few from other countries.
Be warned before you open it that it is massive. 3055 pages, 106896 posts, and 5620207 views! It takes several months to go right through it!
I need to know how the French can get away with it. In the UK if you have even one old car rotting in your garden you will have someone complaining to the local council that it is unsightly and you will soon be served with an order to remove it.
We were told several years ago that an EU directive meant that breaker's yards have to be concreted to stop old cars polluting the soil, which led to many traditional breakers closing. It seems from this thread that in France you can park your old car anywhere and let nature consume it. _________________ Brian

I'm not sure of the legalities of it but I am aware of the cultural differences that affect this.
In the UK we are tightly packed on top of one another, if you happen to own a house with a garden then you are considerably lucky as every inch of land is greedily devoured by profit chasing developers.
Allied to this is a state that TELLS YOU what you can and can't have, or do, or say, a population that either passively obey, or tell tales on the others that don't and you have the perfect environment for over regulation.
In France the country is huge and there are vast tracts of privately owned farmland. The people are more pro-active, and actually dare to disobey the government if they feel that it has lost site of the fact that it is there to SERVE the people!
And finally a persons right to privacy, to live quietly on his own land without being subjected to surveillance, cameras, and other intrusive methods employed over here is still respected. |

The population of France is the same as the UK with 60million but 3times the land size.
Legislation is creaping in, it wont be long and that field of 2CVs will be gone
BUT the general public are still bucking the "new way" to live as they wish. There home is there castle and they tend to stay in the one home they dont have the move every 10yrs bug the brits have so their property stays as it is and noone bothers them _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com
