Not posted much on here for a while but I had a great day at the Longcross Proving Ground in Surrey a few weeks ago having been invited by Classic Cars Magazine who were doing a feature on the DB series cars. In January it's 60 years since the launch of the DB2 and they are running a full 11 pages about the various DB cars. I've been asked not to say much until the mag comes out in December so as not to steal their thunder but here's a taster!

No, unfortunately not. I guess we could have arranged it informally but as it was a test track they only really wanted one car out at a time and it's amazing the amount of driving required for a magazine article. Firstly the journalist wanted to drive each one, with us accompanying him, to get his driving impressions which he recorded to aid his memory when writing the article. Then the photographers wanted to get stationary and moving pictures of the cars, with us following a BMW X5 round the track with a snapper hanging out the back, then they wanted some spirited cornering shots and engine shots, interior shots plus the cover shoot and the set-up shot of the DB2 driving past the tails of the other DBs arranged in age order. To be honest there wasn't a lot of spare time for "playing" and if we did there would soon be a snapper or journo' shouting "where's the bloody DB4 gone, Ducky?" Rich... |

God those cars look great! Cars were great when the bumpers were really bumpers. I like those DBs much more than the modern cars.

Mag is now available and the publishers kindly sent me a copy, despite it being a grey day the pictures look great.
Here's a link.

I'm quite proud actually given that 2 years ago when I brought the car home my wife questioned "what on Earth have you bought?" Now it's on the cover of Classic Cars

Perhaps some of yo saw the article in Classic Car in December? I've now had a set of images sent to me by the two photographers who worked on the article. They really show the difference between amateur snaps and professional photographs! I really like this one, you don't often get moving images of your own car so this one will be framed and hung on my study wall!

Well that's another MOT passed, another 1,700 miles on the clock and another year older for me and the car! Once again she passed with flying colours and I had my annual poke around under the car. Looks nice now with its new twin exhaust system in place.
Funny story; they've taken on a young lad to assist with the testing and he drove the car into the bay and onto the ramps but when it came to testing the brakes he couldn't start it no matter how he tried. The older chaps all had a laugh at his expense telling how to use the choke and balance the throttle but it still wouldn't start. Crestfallen he suggested I start it so I climbed in and heard the distinctive sound of the fuel pump rapidly ticking away, I pulled open the reserve tank button, waited for the ticking to stop and she fired first time! After they'd had a good laugh I did let them into my little secret that although the needle showed 1/4 tank the main tank was empty so it wasn't the lads fault! |

A young tester failed the Midget on emissions because he left the choke out then he lectured me on why the carbs should be set up properly. I don't take my cars there any more. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1
