Hello from old car / bike nut in Frodsham, Cheshire.

Previous classics include;

* two 2CV's (fantastic cars),
* a 1964 VW Beetle (utter cack, quite honestly - an object lesson in how not to design a motor car),
* a 1970 GP Beach Buggy (well I was young and impressionable at the time!),
* an Alfasud Sprint (loved it, fantastic to drive, but an terminal rust bucket)
* 1956 Chevrolet BelAir (super car but too big for my garage)
* Mk1 MX-5 (a future classic, without doubt).

Currently drive a new MX-5, ride a Moto Guzzi California Special Sport. After I get a pending house move out of the way i want an affordable (say roughly eight grand at most) VSCC eligable car, probably an Austin Seven saloon - any thoughts advice ???

Hi Bengt from another Cheshire-ite Wink

An A7 sounds like a good starter car for VSCC eligibility (pre-1930 I think it'd need to be), although for competing, Model A Fords seem popular if you could find one in budget??

I don't pretend to be a mechanical genius and don't have the time to endlessly trail autojumbles for parts for an obscure make of car, so the A7 seemed a safe (if somewhat too 'main-stream' for my eccentric taste) choice as a starter vintage.

I did wonder about Ford A's though (and I could rejoin the very excellent Pre'50 American Auto Club which I left when I sold the Chevy).

Ummm, food for thought. First though I have to sell/buy a house, which is no easy task at the moment!

Good luck with the sale, I think bits for Model As are quite easy to get too, plus it might roll along a bit quicker if you're going a distance. Are you planning to compete in any VSCC stuff with whatever you go for??

I've been a VSCC member for a while, so would probably ease myself in gently with a few Navigation Rallies or a Trial before thinking of speed events.

I'm a big hillclimb fan really, so maybe that's where I would aim for, but not in my first vintage.

Welcome from me too.

What about a 1920's standard, a six or a Coupe?

A little MG C type of D type?

Just what I would be looking at if I was looking.

Cheers

Dave
