Lucas trafficators

Hi everyone, I am doing up a 1937 1 1/2 litre SS Jaguar and need a pair of trafficators. I presume they are Lucas, but don't know for sure. Can anyone advise as to the make and model of trafficator used in this vehicle which is a scaled down version of the 2 1/2 litre model of the same year. I don't know but would expect that the 1 1/2 litre model may have had a different trafficator than the 2 1/2 litre model.

Hi Jendean,

I assume from your description that this is the coachbuilt 1 1/2 litre with the
silver faced instruments.

The trafficators for that car are Lucas SF45/17C 12v

Hi Jendean,
had a look in the Lucas master catalogue for 1930-1939 and non are specified for your car, so can't confirm what was originally fitted, I have also never come across the Lucas SF45 unit that Peter quotes in any listing pre or post war. That said I have found many discrepancies in the Lucas catalogues especially for pre war stuff, so they may well have made a trafficator for a specific model and given it a different code if this is the case it will based on one of the mainstream units with a slight mod , could be as simple as Jaguar specified stainless steel rather than chrome or a painted arm cover.

So if Lucas did make a SF45 its going to be very rare. The SF35 and SF43 are listed and are very similar and have the 8 ¼” arms (an inch longer than most trafficators, but they did tend to fit bigger units pre war) I wondering if Peter is referring to one of these units?
The pic below lists and differentiates the different units that were common around the war, if this helps.

Looking at the parts list for the 1936/37 2 1/2 litre it also quotes the SF45 but if I look at the next generation, admittedly with rather different body to
Jendean's it quotes SF55 J type 23G for the 1 1/2 litre and SF54G for the 2 1/2 litre.

Maybe if Jendean could measure his slot length and fixing screw pitch it would help.

I think his car has a separate circuit for the warning lamp that detects when the arm is up.

Hi UK Dave and everybody else, ime looking for a set of Lucas SE62 (boxed type) trafficators to fit an early series 1 Landrover, also origional fixing brackets and a Lucas TS82 trafficator switch, all the above preferably in working condition, but will consider items in almost any repairable or servicable condition, including new old stock!

If i cant find the complete units in boxes, i would also consider just the trafficator, correct me if i am wrong, but i read further down the forum that these were same as SF34 units.

I have a 1935 Riley kestrel 1 1/2 ltr and fitted with the Lucas SF28A trafficators but knackered. Are there any around. They have a very light weight
metal frame all around and a bulge in the lens for the festoon globe. I assume they are original as the rest of the car is.

When you say "knackered" - is that utterly broken, or could they be repaired? If you can't find any replacements, there are some specialists who can bring defunct auto-electrical items which you'd have thought were ready for the scrap bin back to life.

It was a loose term.
The solenoids work, however the frames are thin and parts are die-cast. The lenses are distorted and the festoon holders are no longer with us. The frames could be cast in brass or similar but it would be good to make a small quantity to make it economical.
Thanks for your suggestions and I will follow up.I think these trafficators were also on some Austin 7 hard tops?
