Paul sent me details of this mascot he found in his dad's loft, he wonders what it might be off and what it could be worth?? does anyone recognise it as being off a particular car, or is it an aftermarket mascot to fit a variety of motorcars??

Rick,

That's got to be from an Austin.

Art is right on the money.
This mascot is featured as plate number 302, page 84, in William C. Williams` book "Motoring Mascots of the World".

Austin 1908-1926
Winged steering wheel.
Marked Reg.286069 (found first on 1923 model)
Found in 3 sizes: very early large mascot 4 inches high (10.2 cm) with 6 1/2 inch wingspan (16.5 cm)
medium height 2 5/8 inch (6.7 cm) with 4 3/8 inch wingspan (11.2 cm)
small height 2 1/2 inch (6.4 cm) with 4 1/4 inch wingspan (10.8 cm)

EXCELLENT book, if you fancy mascots at all. I have a half dozen mascot books, this one is most complete, informative, and LOADED with pictures.
