Hi, my name is Rich, I'm 18 years old and live near Southend, Essex. I own a pair of near-identical '59 Austin A35's, the only difference being the condition as one has done 36,000 miles from new and the other 160,000. Get the idea? My original A35, 640TMP, was owned by my parents for many years, and was only replaced 2 weeks ago by VGX231. Since then I have done about 250 miles in the car, driving to college and back every day. I am going to restore the other car when funds allow, but that will just have to wait for the moment! Our family is overrun with cars, we have a '37 Austin 7 Ruby and a '60 Morris Minor as well as the two A35's and two moderns.

Since this picture was taken I have fitted wing mirrors and seatbelts to VGX.

This was taken just before TMP came off the road, on a trip to Battlesbridge.

And this was taken last week, in my college car park.

Hi

Another youngish member, we will take over one day literally! Glad to see you use it, and it and take it or it takes you to college.

Cheers

Hey Rich,

Those are two beautiful A35's you have there.

You say you are from "near Southend". Where abouts? I'm a Hockley boy originally, way back in the dark ages!

Hi Keith,

I live in Little Wakering, but yes it's not far from Hockley. Must be a bit different in Oz!

Keith

I am in Eastwood, the bit just the other side of Hockley Woods.

Shame you have moved so far away, as Rich and I are arranging to meet up and try to start an active Essex branch of the forum to rival the Cheshire Crew who are dominant here Very Happy

Any other Essex members want to join us?

Hey Rich and Brian,

Terrific idea to start a local group up.

I attended Hockley Primary school and Rayleigh Sweyne Grammer when it opened. I served my apprenticeship at Ekco radio and TV at Prittlewell before heading to Oz in 1967 where I've lived ever since. I have often travelled back to the UK, but only for holidays in the summer!!! I couldn't handle the cold again!!

Its great to see that you are obviously as enthusiastic as your parents towards these great cars. I bought my first classic when I was just 16 years of age and have continued to be a classic car owner ever since. You do realise its contagious don't you !!!

Best wishes
Dave

Hi Dave,

You're right there, it certainly is contagious! Because of me, one of my friends is now looking to buy a Morris Minor as her first car!
By the time I'm 25 I hope to have a collection of classics to rival Rick's, a Wolseley 1500, Austin A70 Hampshire and a Ford E83W pickup (blame the forum for this one!) would be top of my list. Laughing

Hi Rick,

The colour is Island Blue, most were either black or grey so it makes a nice change! Smile

Thanks

A few years back I found this tin of small sweeties featuring an A35 on the lid, I've not seen any others since then

Hi Rick,

That's interesting, as they are shaped a bit like a boiled sweet! Or a peanut....When my other A35 was being sprayed about 23 years ago, the sprayer described it as "one of them peanuts". So the name stuck! I might have to call this one 'Sweetie'! Laughing

when they raced them back in the day, they were refered to as the powerful peanut.
