Yes, it's taken seven years to get this far. She'll be painted at the end of the month and finally on show at Silverstone in July. Since no one has seen one for 57 years I hope you like it!

The car itself is the aerodynamic C type Jaguar of which three were made for the 1952 Le Mans 24 hour race and of which none exist. You can see a real C type next to the car to compare the difference. The car was very slippery but due to poor preparation and testing all three broke down due to overheating. This was cured after the race by two simple modifications. Very little information exisits on the car so it took five years to collect enough material and photos, plus discussions with the two surviving drivers, to enable the work to start. While it is a complete recreation there are many original C type parts in it and it will have the becessary FIA papers to race, hopefully the Le Mans Classic next year.

very interesting. The front did make me think of the revised air intakes that they tried one year, I hadn't realised that the back end was also heavily modified.

Hi

Looks very interesting, have you other pics during the build?

Also ditto stuchamp's comments what is behind it in the first picture?

Cheers

Dave

The only time it will be showed properly in the UK this year is at Silverstone at the end of July. The news of this car was kept fairly quiet (one web site excepted) until we had got this far because we didn't want anyone trying to beat us to it. Mind you, they'd have had to get a move on because I took five years researching it before we lifted a steel tube to make the chassis! One of the original drivers has been immensely helpful throughout, not only with specific advice but also encouragement. There gets to be times when you wonder what you have got yourself into! I might take it down for fun to the VSCC meet the next weekend at Prescott too, then it will be back home here to Le Mans for the rest of the summer and then to Geneva in October and that's that. Probably on display all winter in the ACO museum here at Le Mans. Incidentally, I forgot to say that that is a Frazer Nash Le Mans replica behind my car in the photo.

Very very nice indeed lowdrag. Will you be painting it BRG and doing the air intake surround in white a la B&W minstrel?

No, the originals were pure BRG. I think the car you are thinking of is the Hawthorn 1955 long nose D type which won Le Mans that year. Cars had different markings to identify them in those days. Mine will wear #19 in honour of Ian Stewart who has given me so much help on the project. He raced it at Le Mans in 1952.

Hi

So are you doing the build yourself or contracting people in?

Cheers

I spent five years researching it and finding the bits here and there but the car has been built for me. I'm not frankly gifted enough. Luckily with the amrket as it is I sold one car to finance the construction and amazingly I am within the budget!

While the bodywork looks stunning on the outside, I am more amazed by the quality of workmanship when viewed underneath. Here is the tail section with perfect riveting and triangular access panels for the rear lights.
