The new museum opens spring 2011, with the present one closing to the public spring of next year.

The new building has all its steel-wprk in place, barring odds & sods, the cladding is going on, which is to be "weathered zinc", a matt light grey colour to reflect the industrial heritage of the area apparently.

Scotty

You are going to your work cut out to shift all the exhibits!

Are all the shop fronts being moved as well?

The first major move happened at the end of last month when we returned the Royal Carriage and brought in a mock-up of the new Type 380 unit that's going to be used in Ayrshire from Sept. 2010.

This is the low-loader that arrived to pick up the carriage -

I didn't wait all night to see how things went, going home about 11 pm, sadly missing the actual carriage going onto the low-loader, but these are some of the early shots -

With regard to the shop fronts - they will be dismantled when the museum is closed and some of them will be fitted into the new street created in the new museum. The major difficulty is dismantling the underground station and the underground carriages, which entails demolition of a substantial part of the museum interior to shift them out - once again when the museum is closed.

The image below is the new street in the Riverside Museum in its "bare bones" state as of Friday there - the curved steelwork on lhs is the various shops framework structure and where the dismantled frontages will be reconstructed. The horizontal large steel circular "pins" are the supports for one of the exhibits on which a curving / climbing road is going to be constructed representing hill-climb motorsport of the 1950's.

We are going to Moffat on the Friday night and doing the road run on the Saturday. There are 9 marinas booked in. We have taken the caravan for the last few years now.....Great special fish suppers in the chippy on the main street. Cool Cool
