I do have to say that I find it a litle amazing that there is no online resource for classic cars in the way of service manuals.
I mean nobody has scanned a service/workshop manual and made it available online.
I do think that a part of the beauty of older cars is that they are so simple to work on. so you don't necessarily need a manual.
I'm still in the taking things appart stage of my restoration, I'm in two minds, about this, in one way, no, I don't want to end up with a broken car and a garage full of parts, in other ways I need to strip this car back as much as possible to find out just how far the rot in the body has gone. (I also need to strip back for a re-spray).
what I do have is some bubble wrap and some tape, all of the parts I'm taking off are getting wrapped together, (with any bolts/screws/washers that belong with them) then are being put in a safe place. I also have a pad and a pen with me on the car and I'm writting a detailed description of exactly how the car came appart, to aid me in putting it bak together again.
I'm describing everything, hopefully to the level where I can visualise exactly how it all goes back together.
for example.
Boot:
attache either side by chrome hinge. (2 bolts into boot)
layers are hinge, boot, washer, nut
boot hinges:
attached to main body (1 bolt) and boot lid (2 bolts)
layers, hinge, body, washer, bolt
notes: NS hinge slopes downwards towards outside of the car, OS hinge slopes downwards towards offside of car.
appears that there should be some rubber, (perished on removal) between metal hinge and body.
bolts are studs attached to hinge part.
Now I've got a complete description of how the boot goes together, something about the condition is was in, if I needed I could draw an exploded diagram from that description. moreover I'll know exactly how to put it all back together.
Whilst I have found a service manual for the car that I've got I've decided that (at least for the moment) I'm going to try to get by without one.
The place that I found the service manual for my car, (though I haven't bought one yet), ebay, and there was one I found on amazon in a book seller called old classic books, or vintage books, (something like that).
probably best to just google the cars make model and the words service manual or workshop manual. |
