Hi JB,

The chassis number is stamped at the front of the near side (left) chassis leg.
If it's a 2.5litre saloon it will have the form 520001 RHD or 527001 LHD.
If it's a 3.5litre then 620001 RHD and 627001 LHD.

The engine number is stamped on the boss that projects out from the block on the exhaust side towards the rear just below the head gasket level.

HTH

Thanks for the information. I still couldnt locate any numbers, but Im sure I wasnt looking in the right place

...Could you be even more specific (for an idiot like me) on the "exact" location...Can I see it from above the engine block? Or on the ground looking up? Left or right side? Is it by the front left tire? I have some idea but I dont quite know what chassis leg is? What is near the location?

Thanks again so much...Am trying to get a title for the car...

Hi JB,

I'm sorry but I can't be any more specific. I was just quoting from the workshop manual. If it's like earlier Jags then it will be on LHS vertical face and could be anywhere from the jacking point back to the suspension. Also, if like earlier cars the lettering is quite big possibly 1/2" high numbers. Might be worth having a good scrape at it.

There are a lot of Mark V owners on http://forums.jag-lovers.org/index.php3?zx=SdAHzxPwzKPOC706QMnO%2F0j8Fj7Yy8NKAv8x0dkDD846B5uW%2BAnPC%2F7WnswK0BJIn5%2FHBMoR%2F96cyQLHCQCYx7gN

I'm sure you'll get the answer there.

HTH

I suspect that G8243 is the body number. On the earlier Jags the body numbers were on little metal plates with embossed characters. There was no other information on the plate and you would find similar plates on the inside of the doors after removing the door cards.
