Just got back and wanted to be the first to post!
We have doubled the numbers - 4 cars met at Takely, but following a heavy downpour, Pat left the Midget and 3 of us convoyed to the car Show at Matching Green:
Me in the Volvo, Rich (630TMP) in his A35, and Nic and Pat in the Talbot.
I had a word with the organisers who are old friends of mine, and Nic and Pat were awarded the prize for best pre-war, green, open tourer with red wheels! Now they will wonder......
And finally a pic of all of us:
A good time was had by all. _________________ Brian

A fantastic set of photos and a great cross section of cars. It was obviously a terrific day.

It was a great day out, and I was really tired by the time I got home! The highlight for me was seeing the A35 pickup - I didn't know there were any in Essex. _________________ Richard Hughes |

I really like the Austin A35 pickup – WVF 379. When I was a child our family lived near Reading University and a pickup like this was most days parked on the campus. I sort of fell in love with it!
Now I'm older and wiser I realise the error of my ways, what can you get in the back?
Also 'mine' had a red vinyl top to match the spare wheel cover. |

Hi Ghost,
Yes it was in lovely condition. The load area is very small and was totally impractical for load carrying. However it does have a fold up dicky seat. When the pickup was introduced the idea was to have two seats in the back for ferrying builders around building sites etc, while qualifying for the cheaper commercial rate of Purchase Tax. However the Inland Revenue dismissed Austin's claims it was a commercial and taxed it at the car rate of Purchase Tax. Hence they were very slow to sell and only 475 were built. I remember the registration of this one from a club magazine last year - at that time it was unrestored. The tax disc was issued locally in Harlow, so it must live nearby.
Incidentally this one had a red tonneau cover as well - it is folded back in the pictures All UK market pickups were finished in the attractive shade of Tweed Grey with Cherry Red trim _________________ Richard Hughes |

The raindrops spoilt this one - the Royales were a better reflection! _________________ Brian
