It all started when the Morris 8 kept oiling No 3 plug. I took the head off and found serious engine damage - previously posted. The engine has been completely stripped and new liners, valve guides and mains should be the bigest bits to replace. As this would take some time I had a good look at the running boards and decided that they would need to be replaced. I had to cut off most of the bolts and then the extent of the tin worm became apparent.

So Now I will have to take the body off the chassis so I can assertain the damage to the body. To do this I will have to remove most of the interior trim. As I started to remove the trim it was clear that the wood worm problem was far worse than I had envisaged.

I have managed to keep most of the trim in one(ish) piece so I will make cardboard templates then make new wooden panels. I will try to soak off the original covering and glue it on to the new wood. I will have to make new floorboards as well.
There are some other areas of rot that will have to be dealt with.

Hey Nic,

What a shock and disappointment. I hope you don't find anything else nasty.

At least when you've fixed the Morris up, you will know that it should be trouble free for years!

Good luck - Keith

Getting mine for £0.
Pulled off the N/S rear wing to have a good look at the rust damage. The wing itself is a bit thin in places where it meets the body with a rub down, stabiliser and a skim with epoxy resin it should be OK. The rust holes are all easy enough to plate as it is all right angle stuff exept the lower body. I will start on the trim soon as I can do that stuff at my leisure while I am waiting for the Plus Gas to do its thing.

Brian, I thought you were talking about a welder Confused .
Anyway I bought a Morris 8 engine off Ebay last night. Quite a rusty looking thing but no frost cracks and at £52 I would take a gamble. I picked it up this morning and The seller said the previous owner had put new pistons in it - things looking up but don't count chickens etc. I got to work and unloaded the engine, put it in a corner and gave it a good squirt with service fluid. I felt the bottom end and it feels good but will it loosen up when turned a few times? I took the head off and cylinder No2 looked quite rusty and the others not bad so squirty and have a cuppa. I tapped a socket onto the end of the crankshaft and ofter a bit of rocking the crank it started to turn over. No 1,3 and 4 cylinders are fine and the big ends feel good, as do the mains. The bores are +20 so I have a nearly new set of E pistons for it and I will just have to have No 2 cylinder sleeved and bored to +20. RESULT.

The seller thought that the dynamo with it is a Morris 8 but it does not seem to be, any thoughts? Terminals on the back casting.

The body is now free from the chassis and I lifted it to make sure nothing was still holding it and I found that in the past the chassis had been host to a family of mice.

I will drop the chassis and pull it forward then load the body onto a trailer to have the sills re-made.
