I bought 4 years ago an Austin 12 Ascot Saloon 1934 chrome rad.
It had the licence plate ABJ 561 , papers unknown.
It was brought to Holland in 1973.
The VAR and ATDC cannot help tracking former owners.
Does anyone know something about ABJ 561 ?
Thanks

It doesn't appear to be registered under that number with DVLA.

I can tell you it was first registered in East Suffolk!

Do any of our Suffolk members know where East Suffolk Records Office might be?

At my local library, there are the Southend registration records for 1904 - 1939 in a hand written ledger giving details of the vehicles and the names and adresses of the first owner.

Could be another place to look.

Not sure, although they might have been destroyed, a lot of these old records were when the records were computerised in the 70's.

Brian, that sounds really interesting! Do you have to ask permission to see it? I might have a look next time I'm there.

You need a current Library card, last time I went the "Essex Records Office" was on the second floor. It is a fascinating read, with all the famous local families, old place names etc. give yourself at least 3 or 4 hours for a good browse!

Well I used to have one, no idea if it's valid anymore as I last used it when I was about 10! I'll have to see if I can dig it out. I have a lot of books....

I think it'd be worth having a thread all about old registration records, it'd be a handy resource I think if all known info was all pooled together in one easy-to-find place!
