I have just replaced the nearside section of the central cross member on my Minor. The tortion bar fits into this. I refitted it exactly as I had removed it, but now the car has a slight lean to the left. The cross member section was welded exactly on the site of where the old one was removed. I can't find anything untoward with the suspension. Anyone any ideas as to what I could have missed?

The torsion bars should be adjustable - even a small amount makes a lot of difference

It is 1/4" up or down depending on which way I slide the holed plate - but I used the same hole when I replaced the bar. Will slide it along a couple of notches to raise it. Still a mystery why it should happen, though

Not really - if the mount/X member was corroded it may have caused the side to drop slightly any and a PO may have adjusted back accordingly. In any event the tolerances on rewleding could never be so precise unless you made a very accurate jig.

The original metal would also have been under tension from the bar and the replacment could never be have postioned in such a way to pre-stress to replicate this the same

Like most Bristish cars of that era their attraction to rusting out knows no bounds - even so they are still simple to fixup and look after and far better tha modern efforts.

Hope you can get it standing right - the adjustment on the torsion bars my Rover P5's is infinite

Well this Moggy now stands straight and level. Just jacked it up, popped the adjusting plate off, knocked a broad cold chisel in between the tortion bar arm and top of the cross member to move the bolt down the oval slot, slipped the adjusting plate back on a lower hole, put the nut back on, removed the chisel and job done. Thanks again Phil.
