I don't know what triggered me to think of this but one accessory that I haven't seen for a long time is a fly deflector. As I remember them they were maybe 8" wide and 4" high and slightly "V"ed and were mounted on the radiator cap or the front of the bonnet. They were made of 1/4" Perspex sheet. I can't recall ever seeing one at an autojumble or car show.

They used to be quite common.

Hey Peter!

If they're any good, you'd better send a few thousand out to Oz! We do get the odd fly or three!

G'day Keith,

If I see one I'll let you know. Although it might just end up as a big black impediment to forward vision. Laughing

Aint that strange ! just Sunday I was talking to my Dad and he spoke of the exact same things. I remember them being Blue or Green perpex in sort of a flying pair of wings shape. In the 60s in Australia you would see a lot on 3-6 Ton farm trucks (or is that just how a little boy remembers them ?) havent seen them for yearsand have no Idea if they worked Wink "MO"

I don't go fast enough to be troubled by flies! they usually leave me standing! Laughing
which reminds me: Does anyone know what is the last thing that goes through a fly's mind as it hits your windscreen??
Answer: its nether quarters (for sake of politeness!!) Very Happy

Yes, I think 50 mph appears to be about the threshold. Below that no problem, above and you collect them on all forward verticals.

Peter Very Happy oops! must keep my mouth closed too. Confused

Here's a 'KL' bug deflector on my Herald.

Cheers, Andy

That's the thing Andy!

Thanks for posting and welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you'd have a willing buyer in Keith if you ever wanted to part with one. Wink

Takes me back to Mablethorpe in 1957-58ish when my school teacher's Vauxhall Wyvern had one of the Airmaster deflectors but in amber rather than the blue one shown - it was the only car I've ever seen one on.

If you open the windscreen it's even more important to have a fly deflector.

Might be a good suggestion if of the light sensitive type given the laziness of some drivers to operate their dip switch.

Actually I blame manufacturers for abandoning those excellent floor mounted dip switches.
