She was dropped off at the restorers 2 weeks ago and today was the 1st chance to see her so ,

I know some people think its cheating paying someone else to do the work but we don't have the facilities they have . Any rate no nasty surprises in fact the shell is really solid . We will post more udates and pics as they happen .

Time wise I wouldn't have thought there was a lot of difference between pulling the motor and stripping the ancillaries, but that's only my opinion.

for the money theyve quoted i would assume they were doing a full on job

ask them to remove it so they can paint around the rear of the block and in to the transmission tunnel, its not worth paying a fortune if they arent going to do the job properly

if a customer wants a proper job, i pull the engine and box, blast the engine bay, fully paint it, repaint block (after fitting new core plugs) replace brake lines and make good original loom, replace fuel line and refit steering etc and do quite a bit more

Got hold of a good bonnet yesterday (ours had gone on the front) so dropped it off at the restorers . They'd done a bit more since last there but forgot my camera so a poor mobile phone pic to show the work .

When they took the sill cover off the rear 1/3 was rotten so its a good job We've been able to get them new replacements . For a car that looked pretty decent it just shows you don't know what lurks .

Did the estates have fully galvanised sills when built, like on the 4dr saloons?

Had a phone call from the restorers last night about some fibre glass they had found . Went and had a look today and took some pics , not as bad as imagined and she is coming along nicely . Sorry for poor quality of pics took on mobile phone .

They are hoping to have her stripped to bare metal next week ready for the respray . The best thing is seeing all the work they are putting in to give us a completely rust free car .

Took the camera today ,

This side had had various wheelarch repairs done and the old rusty metal left underneath , not now though . (the wing in the corner of the pic belongs to a 1930's Railton , I suppose I should take some pics of the other cars being worked on )

There were holes at each end of this panel as the drain holes were getting blocked , when they put her back together there will be larger drain holes .

Both right and left of the screen had lots of rust bubbles that had gone thru to the inside . Ther nearside still looks scruffy as the lead loading is not yet finished .

Sorry about being pic heavy but you can see proper metal not rust . The next stage is to trial fit the front doors to make sure all the gaps are good before the bare metal strip and repaint .

It must give you a great deal of confidence knowing the car is in good hands with a skilled workforce
