Hi Everyone,
I finally worked out how to post pictures and here is my 103E Popular. I purchased (3 months ago) the Pop off Trade Me (like your EBay) sight unseen and have ended up with a great little car. A gem I think.
She has the odd bump and scratch and the interior is scruffy but I plan to restore it next winter.

So out of interest, I know of the e93 Pop and the more modern looking 100e so how did Ford do the numbering on these cars because I would have thought a 103e would be of a similar era to the "raked-in-back" Anglias? |

Nice car! I also bought a 103E recently (see below in mid-rebuild) and it just passed it's MOT first time through after not having been started since 1983. We had to do some recovery work to get it up to scratch, and I look forward to doing a proper restore in months/years to come
Yours looks to be a great car (nice colour too, and chrome bumpers) - good luck with your restore!
P.S. I also have no idea how Ford came up with their model designation, so it'll be interesting to see if anybody out there knows more? |

the model codes changed over time - eg the pre-war designed E83W was:
- E for English Ford
- 8, for 1938, ie the year introduced
- 3 for 10hp 1172 engine
- W for forward control (or strictly speaking semi-forward control on the E83W)
Presumably by the time that Pop 103Es came along, they must have changed it again, or else used a different system for commercials and cars
Rich - the 105E Anglia was later than the 103E Pop. The E93A designation was used for the 10hp engines, as fitted in the upright sidevalve Fords, and was the model code for the pre-war Prefect, the postwar upright Prefect was the E493A (in the UK at least).
