Some caravans we spotted whilst out and about on our travels earlier this year.

In North Cumbria.

Co. Durham - still appears to be used (despite the broken window) and very nice inside.

Powys-Shropshire border - reasonably intact inside, complete with lots of bits and pieces belonging to the last occupant.

What make do you think the lead light monster you
found in North Cumbria is ... and what is that white
stuff on the roof ?

And the lantern roof one on the Powys - Shropshire
boarder... it should be saved too .

Hi Cobber,

I'm not certain of the make of the large caravan in Cumbria with the leaded windows and nor was the man who owned it. Apparently it was already in his garden when he bought the house. He couldn't find the key, but did let us look through the windows - nice wood interior. The white stuff on the roof is snow - the picture was taken in late February.

The caravan with the lantern roof was in a field which appeared to belong to a farmhouse opposite, which was empty, so there was no one to ask about it. Still, it meant we had loads of time to peer through the windows and look around the outside. It has a second door on the other side.

Looking at the caravan with the leaded windows again, I wonder if it is a Vickers.

This is a pic of a Vickers lunedale, we rallied a few years ago,
you can see the same lead pattern on the windows,
a top class van ,Vickers started with touring vans and living vans, before making bespoke vans for travelling folk
(can anyone name the bike in the background )

Well done both of you
With the information she is a "Vickers" I did a google and
came up with these two links which probably explains why
the make doesn't get a mention in "The History of the Caravan"
book..... he didn't get into "bespoke" caravans untill the '60s, hardly "vintage , aye ?
I would have thought the one you found in North Cumbria
Barry was pre 1960s ?

When we spoke to the bloke who owned the Vickers in Cumbria, he hinted that he might be willing to sell it providing the price was right. He didn't say what that price might be though.

I know also that the people owning the Bluebird in Powys and the Country Life near Pwllheli would also consider selling them. The woman who owned the Bluebird said that she had been trying for years to convince her husband to condemn it to the bonfire! Hopefully her powers of persuasion continue to fail her . . .
