hello,
after a year of waiting and searching, ive finally bought a Daimler.
bought her nearby after spotting her by shear chance

(im a real fan of British luxury saloons
driving a mg zt v6 at the minute and what a car!!beautiful)

been dry stored by some old tycoon since 1984(tax disk on windscreen was out of date 85)

after alot of ear ache from my parents i finally persuaded them to help me transpost her home

have been working the past week on her to try and get her back on the road, as rust goes shes not too bad for a series 1, srear arches ill need replacing, front wings will need body fill and drivers footwell needs attention, surprisingly the sills and underneath are 100%

hoever the exhaust is unrepairable, i only have one decent back box and a good silencer, everything else in the system is rotten, so thats my main obective TRY AND SOURCE CHEAP EXHAUST PARTS

also the fuel lines from the carbs have beed dissconnected and i have no idea where they are supposed to connect to?

going to service her, try to connect the fuel lines? and then hopfully the engines also 100%! ha

regency red with cream interior 4.2 automatic, immacualte interior

any help appreciated thanks

Hi Gareth

Great to see your Daimler! cracking cars. I think the trickiest thing I had to sort on my 4.2 was the AED (Automatic Enrichment Device), ie the automatic choke. It wasn't meant to be taken apart but an article in a JEC magazine years ago did cover it, and with a bit of fiddling it worked as it should. Every time I start reading about old Jaguars I get the urge to find another Smile

You might turn up an exhaust system on ebay, or else advertising in some of the local papers might turn something up. They'll be available brand new, but for a pretty sum I guess. If I have any underbonnet photos showing the fuel lines I'll post them on here.

Just had a look through a few old photos, no underbonnet shots of the last S1 I had but I thought you might like to see a couple of pics....

this is when we went to collect it from London

and when back home, after a good scrub up

If you get stuck with the fuel line plumbing, let me know. I've just remembered that while walking our dog a few years ago, I spotted some derelict S1 XJs behind a house not far from here. They didn't look like they were going anywhere, and pound to a penny they're still there. If you like I can knock on his door and see if I can have a peek under the bonnet of one.

This is a bit of a cop out but from here you can get most parts you want.

The automatic choke is a well known problem and many people - on the 6 cylinder engines anyway - changed to HD8 carbs from a E-type with manual choke. Exhausts are now mostly stainless - my E type one is 22 years old and going strong so never a worry agfter you have bought one.

Finally, you have stumbled across a rare and beautiful car. Congratulations and enjoy her but remember to keep us posted.

Had a series 2 Daimler a few years back, great cars, I think I prefered it to my Bentley T, not least because you could go round corners quickly.

http://s828.photobucket.com/albums/zz210/g-mac_2009/

in the first picture you see the carb ith the small fuel line comig from it, this is the line i want to knwo where it connects to?

the second picture is of a device which is under the steering wheel, i think it is after market? any ideas what it is?

the third picture is a hose which comes from the front passengers side into the engine bay, it appears to be cut and i fear it may be something to do with the heating?

the last picture shows just how bad the exhaust was
pm sent bt on your silencer
thanks
Gareth

The switch panel looks like an aftermarket heated rear screen, replacing the original one I guess.
