Titled Austin Rover Online but strangely includes Rootes Group and TVR! Shocked Some excellent write-ups of other cars too.

Very interesting. The in house design team must have been a fairly uninspired bunch. Between my mother and my wife I have quite a bit of experience of these cars. They were pretty good every day transport.

I remember inheriting one from an aunt that had a real coffee grinder gearbox. I bought a complete engine and transmission from a scrap yard for £20. Unfortunately it didn't have any spark plugs and had been sitting out in the rain. The geabox was fine but the engine was very rough. Investigation revealed some very corroded sections of the cylinder walls where the pools of rain water had formed. I later swapped its original engine into place and it became a very nice car.

Glad they used a proper tailgate for the estate in the end. The one off the A40 Farina always seemed to get in the way when loading. Sad

Hi
Personally I don't like 1 piece tailgates, I much prefer a split one like the one shown on the link.
The majority of A40s of coures only had the drop down section.
I couldn't understand the logic of that when they all had a folding rear seat and a proper estate load area.

Have to agree with Penman regarding two piece tailgates, great for carrying long items or just another foot of loading area, used to have a Aussie Ford Fairmont Estate which had the best of both worlds, the tailgate opened like a door or dropped down.

Hi Victor
And of course the No Plate, mounted on the bottom section, was hinged so it could drop down and still be visible, even the Mini had that feature (until the hinges rusted up).
