Does anyone know if Standard 10's have a front subframe? The reason I ask is because my dad is looking at a 1956 Standard Ten on Ebay, which among the MoT failure points lists 'nearside front sub frame bracket insecure'.

I didn't know they had subframes, or is it a mistake by the garage/seller?

Thanks

Richard.

There is a large cross member that all the suspension mounts onto. But I would not call it a sub-frame. A sub-frame to me suggests that engine/steering/suspension all attach to it, which is not the case.

Hi Richard,

I think it's just terminology. You are right. It doesn't have a subframe however it does have a detachable crossmember that carries the front suspension, engine mounts etc.

Peter

p.s. I think of a frame as something with a hole in the middle that accommodates some other entity, an engine perhaps.

Yup to get the engine out you have to drop the front crossmember, and lift the car up over it. It sounds like your dad has excellent taste Wink

He does have a very good taste in cars in my opinion. Current fleet is a 1937 Austin Seven Ruby (up for sale) 1963 Vauxhall Victor FB and a 1967 Morris Minor. Maybe I should start a thread on them, or at least take some pictures.....

Just been out in the Standard, a great little runabout. I saw a blue Ten saloon on ebay yesterday, is that the one he'd seen?

Yeah I was tempted for a micro-second here too, but I'll desist Smile Judging by the side trims its a Super Ten too, so two-tone seats await!!
