Hi I am Dave 35, I am currently restoring a 1935 Hillman 16. I am looking for roadspring silent bloc bushes. The size I require is an inch and seven eigths long, it doesnt matter if they are longer as they can be cut down. Across the outside of the bush is an inch and one eigth, and the centre pin of the shackle which goes through the centre is seven sixteenths. I have been looking on the internet without any sucess for sometime can anyone out there help me please. I live in Sussex.

regards Dave 35

Have you looked on here - I have found metric subititutes that can be made to fit. They will makes specials if you want a number but not cheap.

Otherwise min order in £10.

The stuff is good and despatch quick

Hi Dave,

This lot supply Silentbloc bushes for MGs perhaps you could phone them and ask who their suppliers are. http://www.sportsandvintage.co.uk/main.htm

Another remote possibility is Graham Brown, Vintage & Classis Shock Absorbers.

Company: Vintage & Classic Shock Absorbers Ltd
Address: 203 Sanderstead Road
South Croydon
Surrey
CR2 0PN
Contact: Graham Brown
Telephone: 020 8651 5347

Again if he can't supply he might suggest someone who can.

Peter

Hi Dave and welcome to the forum:

Try Polybush http://www.polybush.co.uk/

I very much doubt if they will have your car listed, but as Phil suggested there may be a metric/ other bush perhaps slighly bigger where you could ream the existing fitting's out to fit ?

Hi, I am still having trouble finding silent bloc bushes for my 1935 Hillman. The troublesome ones are the front of the front springs. they are o/d 1in and 5/16ths. length 2ins and inner diameter is ll/16ths. I desparately need 2 of these. After speaking to various spring manufacturers the suggestion has been made that I have a bronze bush made to fill the spring eye as it doesnt need a lot of movement i.e. fixed pin no shackle. Does anyone have any thoughts on this. Regards Dave 35

Not sure if these can help

I was having problems sourcing a set of suspension bushes for my build.

Had trouble ID'ing the chassis, phoned these people.
The guy I spoke to was very knowlegable seeing as we didn't know the car, gave him the sizes and he phoned back later that day and could supply from stock

Might be worth a call, even if he can point you in the right direction

Worth remembering with any rebuild.

A lot of parts were not made in factory and would have been interchangable from one make to another.

Not only Lucas etc.

I have been finding that out, I now have Standard 9, ford e93a, ford 100e, Ford 105e, Lucas, Bosch, Scania, Volvo, Mercedes and even Massey Furguson.

And of late B&Q and Focus DIY. some parts from my nephews central heating firm.
Anywhere that is the cheapest Laughing Laughing Laughing

Thing is I have found it cheaper to source from the manufacturer, or those that have the paterns, than trying to source through so called vintage car part sellers.

Hi Dave

The following link will take you to some off the shelf bronze bushes, the firm is called "Simply Bearings" their site and service is excellent. Whether you use an off the shelf bush or get one made up will depend on what the nearest size silent block bushes are available and if fits the bush. You may also want to consider reaming the spring eye out slightly if it enables you to get the right size for an off the shelf bush?
If you need to have them made use something like gunmetal (Phos Bronze great for bearings and good machining properties)

Cheers Dave
