Hello,

My Name is Gerrit age 56.
I am from Holland and working on Ford 104E

My other project is a FT-Bonito build in 1975

But this forum is for the realy old cars.
My Ford 104E is from 1954

The previous owner of this car had it in the barn for 40 years or so.

It is looking good because the paint is done in about 1980

There are some parts missing
Amp and petrol instruments are missing

The steering gear has far to much play.
I am still looking for a new steering Nut for LEFT driven car.
Have been searching for 4 month or so but nothing found on internet.
Does some one know where to get a steering gear or parts for 104E ?
The English set is just the other way so I need LEFT from 104E

I will try to give some updates on this project in future.

Found someone who can make the parts for steering gear.
Its cold in the Netherlands and I am not working on the car these days.
last week I found a company wich can make my steering gear parts.
It will cost a lot...
But it will never get play after this repair.
Parts can be made much better as in the old days.
I will keep you informed.
Thanks for the reactions

Hi Gerrit, I've never seen an FT-Bonito before either,I'm sure the Moderators wouldn't mind you posting more information about this very rare car?

The Ford looks great too and it seems in very good condition, good luck with the search for parts for it!

There is a Beetle as bottom

An FT Bonito is a kitcar that late 60s, early 70s was on the market. The letters stand for FT Fiberfab Transformation, a German company that's made this polyester body. The polyester body is mounted on the chassis of a VW Beetle. Together with some other parts of cars could then be build a relatively low-budget sportscar .

In the Netherlands there are about 100 of these cars which currently have approximately 20 have an MOT approval.

In Great Brittain I know there are also some Bonito's some times with another chassis.

Nice on this car is that every thing you make your selves is ORIGINAL.

Special on the Ford is that all must be made just as original.

Now we are discussing here the Bonito and thats off topic.
I start with update the popular 104E.
Got the steering box repaired.
It had 7 cm play on steering wheel.
Metal company Basco from Waalre Netherlands reproduced the worm and nut inside parts from the steering box.
They are just the like mirror to the 103E parts.
There was much play.
Now parts are new hardened and chemical nikkel process on surface.
Just some teflon on the parts and no grease is nesesary.
If someone needs these parts its not cheap but drawings are ready so you can order steering box parts in Waalre Netherlands.
I am looking for the metal part for the door window mechanism.
The part under the window glass is totally rusted away.
Perhaps someone has these parts in UK ?
Replaced the axe from carburetor valve.
Car is much better driving 90KM/h !
Foto's come next time..

My Austin Cambridge's drivers window has gone like this, it's from years of the car being parked outside with water running down the window and rusting the channel at the bottom. To the extent that the window drops out and hits the bottom of the door if you wind it down more than half way! My solution is to find a better secondhand door, as the skin isn't that wonderful either.

Try this place: http://www.thepopshop.org.uk/Pages/Interior%20page.htm

I think what you need is C: Door Window Channel.

Here are some pictures
There are some big problems to overcome.
Steering gear worn out 7 cm play on wheel
Pedal axis holder broken.
And such parts are important if you have compete mechanical brakes

Pedal holder

Steering gear

Broken

Other side

Easy to get parts out, just get the floor out

It was not that easy...
for this part i had to remove exhaust, front axe subframe, brake and clutch mechanism.

The pink paint is Hammerite i painted when i replaced the radiator

A rain weekend and research on internet for a half year result in better electrical system in the 104E.
On the dash where missing 2 instruments, the amps and petrol meter.
I found them but it was not sure they would work.
Amps meter was ok but petrol did not work.
I dismounted the petrol meter and found that the wire between 2 coils was green and broken.
Once repaired the meter was ok.
The dynamo can be adjusted by changing the position of the third brush.
So it is now making about 10 amps.
All direction lights were replaced by LEDS exept on the back site
On the front wings I placed new round direction lights.
Its not original but traffic was looking at left turns and did not see where i was going.
Also all locks and roof are replaced this winter.

Here pictures from dash and more.

Het stuurhuis
The parts for the steering gear are made by Basco from Waalre.
Thats a company which makes parts for ASML and Philips.
The NUT and worm are complete remake now without play.

Here some foto's :

Steering gear new parts greased with teflon.
Its surface is nickel and it will never get play again since processes are much better than in the old days.
