We found this old caravan site, not been used for years and took some photo's. Amazing how there are still old vans around!

hello the lantern roof caravan is a Notin, made in France around the late 1960's. If I can find the owner I'll see if he wants to sell any of the caravans, and let you all know.

Amazing to see !! The first picture is actually an 'Aaro Travella' not an Astral lavengro. This one has the 'optional extra' window to the right of the door which cost £54 in 1979 !!. Not many of these vans left. |

Seeing that first photo, I assumed you'd innocently wandered into a gypsy encampment.
However, as you are still alive, perhaps not.....
Nice photos by the way. |

I've known a lot of Romany people over the years and they have all been very friendly. Like any other people they get angry if they get slagged off and persecuted. Of course there are some bad apples in the barrel, but I think that applies to all types. Cetainly applies to what the White right wing in this country would call, " white Anglo Saxon English" _________________ I can resist anything except temptation ! ( Oscar Wilde)

i think no self respecting gypsy would be seen dead, in any of these tired old vans, but this comment aside, don't you think this forum is about classic caravans and related items, not if we like gypsies or not,
Dalek put these pics on to be of interest on the forum and its a shame that not more folk cannot do the same,
so come on lets have some more classic caravan related post's
and less derogatory comments about people and the way they live OVM |

Hi Dalek,
please please can you poss tell me the where abouts of this old caravan site, and whether you think it is still like that??! And would I be able to visit it for reseach purposes? I am currently doing an MPhil, on home and habitat , and am looking at abandoned caravans, but so far I've not found a whole site like this...
Or does anyone else know of an abandoned and run down site like this?? |

hi Pollcats,
Sadly the site was purchased last year and the entire site has been cleared and new caravans brought in as a running site. _________________ I can resist anything except temptation ! ( Oscar Wilde)

great vans, if only somebody had rescued them, its a real shame when they get scrapped. nice to see the pictures of the vans as they were when it was a site. in the past these were all loved and cherished but life got in the way and they got forgotten, modern life has a lot to answer for. |
