was the OP holding his car up as a 100% accurate back-to-factory-fresh example?? or an E-Type that he clearly enjoys owning, maintaining and using?

I loved my E series 1.5 roadster when I had it but was only a JDC member for one year (and one meeting - don't ask). The car was turned into bricks and mortar when sold.
I like used and patinated cars I like shiny and looked after cars but best of all cars that are used - however with the greatest respect to those who do I can't be bothered with concours and the nit picking. I don't suppose the angle of a pipe or plug leads will bother me when the grim reaper calls nor will matter in a hundred years.
No intention to upset anybody - each to their own. _________________ Jonathan Butler

lowdrag,
No offence taken, but are you on the right forum
This is a restoration forum and you start critiquing my car as if its on a Concours Forum.
My cars project thread says Work in Progress WiP. As Rick says I dont advertise it as concours. Its a car I enjoy driving, showing so other people get pleasure from it and a lot do. Plus as funds alllow I work on it to bring it back to a more enjoyable driving car but Rome wasnt built in a day. So it gets done as time and funds allow.
You having to "pass" on the car, I certainly wont sleep.
In my 15 mths of ownership I think you are the only to be negative about the car _________________ Car-Nut

What a superb E type and you know what as its yours and you've paid for it you can do what you like with it, now I know why after being reminded by reading Lowdrags comments that by the time I was on my third Jaguar a 3.8 Mk 10, I was so sick and tired of the Jaguar attitude that I never bothered rejoining the clubs |

Car-nut you have done a fantastic job with your car. Engine looks totally brilliant good work my friend!
Lowdrag...IMO commenting with your concours judging skills on someone car without their permission can only be seen as some kind of put down to Car-nuts hard work. By writing "I hope you take this in the best spirit" doesn’t excuse rudeness. It’s not needed on this friendly forum.

Steve,
Thanks for taking the time to upload the picture.
Fantastic
What a coincidence but my 420G which I finally collect Saturday is Regency Red.
As you can imagine Im very excited and cant wait to get the car home, I did the deal in September but havent had the time to collect it.
Mine isnt a rare manual overdive, so I have to learn how to drive an auto on my 200+ mile journey home plus get used to the size of the car.... _________________ Car-Nut

Finally an update, sorry its been a while
Finally I got the sugar scoops out....
Looking at them I presume they have be done in Hammerite smooth silver
With those out the bumper could be easily removed.
This had bugged me since 26th July 2009 when I got the car.
Any way I stripped it down and it will go off to the platers at the end of the week with a few parts for the "G"
An interesting thing when i took the headlamps out, one looks like a sealed unit, is it when the bulbs go you just throw them
I had a spare that came with the car so will put that back in.
Also I had some new bulbs Id bought ages ago on the shelf, will these be brighter or are they just a different shaped bulb
Now looking tootless and rootless
Even if bumperless it needs to be back together for the 17th Aprill for the St Georges day rally Im driving in..... Should be a laugh
Through 20 villages and about 70 miles ish..... _________________ Car-Nut

Hi Car-Nut, You are right in thinking that the sealed beamed unit is thrown away, its just a very large bulb. the two bulbs you have together will be different, the round one will be a standard bulb, the thin one is probably halogen, well worth upgrading to halogen while you have it all out, I changed my sealed beams to halogen and the difference is amazing. |

Victor,
I cant believe headlamps are sealed beam, this must of been a lot more expensive option than a bulb....
I will check my invoices for 2009, but Im sure I ordered Halogen when those round bulbs came.
Certainly worth upgrading if they arent I was caught out in Cheshire last October at 4.45pm and driving to the m6 it was like I had a torch shone in front of me _________________ Car-Nut

I think the best thing about this is that this E-Type appears to be being run on a budget, with Car Nut doing all his own work, rather than a lot of Jaguar owners who I suspect leave the car with a local specialist to sort out any problems and hand them a vast amount of cash at the end.
Well done |

Richard,
I sometimes try to budget but with sorting 3 cars at the moment the big G is soaking up large amounts of money and the E took a bit of back seat it was only after driving it the other day and some chrome going off for the G I thought I best remove the bumpers. To be ready for the shows etc.
I will update the G- Reggie later if I get 5 _________________ Car-Nut

Word of warning, if you do get or have got Halogen bulbs for your car dont handle them by the bulb part as the sweat or any oil or grease from your hands will shorten the life of the bulbs. Ive known mechanics handle bulbs by the glass part and they have blown in less than a week, so handle by the base only. _________________ If the world didn't suck we'd all fall off |

With the headlamps sorted. The re-chromed bumper got fitted.
Day 1 when I got the car.... I always thought the bumper let the front of the car down.
The chrome after its been rechromed and been given a good polish
Building it up...
The standard of the parts:
These sections were in poor condition and apparently after dipping there was more braise than metal on the inside
they did the best they could.
Before fitting it back together I gave it a good coat of hamerite silver smooth on the inside
For that extra bit of protection _________________ Car-Nut
