Well, the weather was ok so I headed up to where Bertie is garaged in order to haul him out again. I was planning to bring him back to mine for a clean up, as a lot of small sticky finger prints had mysteriously appeared on the windows and inside - I cant think how ( Coombe Abbey ) ! He dutifully fired up first pull and off we went - to be flagged down almost straight away by an excited looking guy . His name was Colin, and he`d been trying for ages to catch me as I drove past his house, and as Bertie`s sound is very distinctive he ran out to tell me he`d got one too ! Without further ado, he invited me to have a look, so I duly parked up and went round the back of the houses from where I had just driven out. He opened up the garage to reveal this
Her name is Katy, and she`s a 1956 1172 sidevalve Pop, and has undergone a full and very thorough restoration....
These pictures really dont do her justice, all I can say is she`s really good and Colin has every right to be as proud of her as he is, having done most of the restoration himself. We got talking, as you do, and he said did I know about the Meriden Ford Sidevalve Club, which I didnt, and went on to say that they meet at The Queens Head in Meriden every 2nd tuesday of the month ! So guess where we`re going to be next tuesday at 8.15 ? It really is a small world isnt it? What are the chances of two Pops within 200 yards of each other, Katy and Bertie, and as his lad pointed out, they could be boyfriend and girlfriend ! I`ll be taking the camera of course, and what better excuse to go to a 300 year old pub in picturesque surroundings?! From the sublime, to the....well, Bertie was made in Dagenham and is English through and through, and as THAT time is approaching, with a little help from "paint" on the computer....
Sorry, couldn`t resist it ...catch you soon, thanks for reading.. |

Hi
Sorry, but the date for the flags is 23rd April.
Or do you have something else in mind, England winning a test or an englishman winning a GP. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Hmmm, with a bit of fun, I appear to have stirred up a hornet`s nest! Seriously I too am not a supporter of footie in general, but am English and proud of it, and since the onslaught of the World Cup is upon us I just thought I would show my support of our great country in a "different" way which associates it with this great site.... |

Sorry for the highjack Bertie
Must take more water with it
As has been said, nice to meet the neighbours.
Have a neighbour who has never talked to anyone before.
Since the re-build of the DLM we now gat a "Morning, even a "hello"
Also finding a lot of locals keep classics around the village.
Seems Tiptree is into more than just the preserves on the shelves.
Has he been on a long trip yet, mine is off to Thorney Island a week on Friday. 126 miles out.
Then Blackpool for the Veterans weekend at the end of the month. I Hope.

I`m slowly but surely taking him out further and further, the only problem to date has been the fuel evaporation problem, but that doesnt happen unless you are stuck in traffic with little fuel being used, which then starts to evaporate with the heat . I have an electric pump which I fully intend to fit, it`s just a lack of time...and laziness! I have entered him into the Coventry run in September, which is about a 40ish mile round trip which takes in Stratford, Warwick and Henley in Arden I think, but if he goes as well as he`s been going recently, I dont think I have too many worries ! |

Love the Pop but can't stand football either
With the fuel evapourisation problem, have you tried a small metal heatshield between the exhaust manifold and the fuel pump yet?..as a lot of people have found this method to work ok, fortunately mine doesn't suffer from it so I've not had to try anything.
All the best,

The 1500 Midget suffers from this problem. I have "cured" mine by fitting a heatshield over the exhaust manifold and also using 10w40 semi synthetic so the engine runs cooler. I am waiting for the flack. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1
