I need to buy these for fitting to vintage car, where can I purchase such things. I have tried usual suspects but am not over-struck on choice. |

Pork pie or D-lamps seem easy enough to find - or at least the repro ones are - and proper Lucas jobs turn up on ebay quite often.
As for period-looking indicators I'm not so sure, most people fit motorcycle units but I've yet to see any that (I think anyway) look right on a vintage motor-car. Could a "diver's helmet" type rear lamp be converted to flashers? Otherwise the Duolamp is another option, but might look a bit American for a British car.

Hi
Kind of related to your question, sorry for drifting a little!
I saw a neat little thing the other day, someone had trafficators, but obviously wanted flashers for driving, so he had some modern looking flashers, nice and visable, that fastened onto some brackets he had made. These then went over the wind up windows, so when he wound them up they were securely attatched, he then just had a switch.
They could even be LED with a battery, so completely seperate to the car etc.
I thought a great idea so you can have them for road work, but take them off easily for road runs or rallies.
Cheers

neat idea, a good use for redundant parking lights from the 50s and 60s, if the lens colour could be corrected.

As for flashers, I think these ones on our 1932 Austin Seven look really nice, trouble is, they were on the car when we got it so I don't know where the previous owner got them from!
No close up picture, but you can see them between the radiator and the wings - like little chrome pods They are 6v, and are operated using an A30/35 type indicator switch on the dashboard. _________________ Richard Hughes |

Not liking the look of yellow indicators on a classic, my cars have been modified with a dual filament bulb in the sidelight and a relay to operate them. similarly the rear lights are now stop, side and indicator all in one. Keeps the look of the car much more in keeping I feel. |

Thank you for all the tips and comments. I have gone for duo-lamps which incorporate driving lamp/stop lamp/ indicator. As mentioned they look an little American but as my new old car is the Vauxhall 20/60 I think I may just get away with that! I love the 'Divers Helmet' style of rear light, had them on my last Vauxhall, but they would look very out of place on 20/60, pity. For front indicators I have gone for the small rubber bodied jobs. All this kit is fairly inexpensive and so if I find something better suited I can easily change over. |
