need advice please , the engine from our 1969 mk2 cortina 1600e is painted blue . apparently because its a replacement 711m engine. but for an original restoration do we paint it blue or black as it would have come out of the factory? Question

If you paint it blue everyone will tell you it's not the correct colour even though it is, so it could make for a conversation point. If you paint it black everyone will just look and think it was meant to be black Rolling Eyes

I'd stick with blue. Like with an Austin or a Morris, if it had a Goldseal replacement engine, I'd leave it painted gold.

I'd agree with Rick. My old Austin hire car has a BMC gold seal engine on which the cylinder head was faulty. BMC supplied a replacement painted red. The car ran for years with the engine in those colours, so when I did strip it and overhaul it I painted it the same.
Does that make it a Testa Rossa??
