Somehow or other, not long after we acquired Lid's A30,
I got wind (no, not that kind) of an A35 that was going free, gratis, for nothing.
Needless to say a visit was required, as it was only down the road in Gatley (Sth
Manchester). At one time it must have been the apple of the owners eye, because they had
lavished a great deal of attention and 'restoration' on it.
Not being satisfied with only
painting their bathroom bright pink, they'd had the inspired idea to use up the remaining
gloss paint on the baby Austin. Despite the thickness of the applied paint on top of the
prolific rusty parts, it had done little to halt the march of the rot on the little car's
bodywork. Everything was rotten, save the bonnet and bootlid. But, in its favour, it was
complete, so the inevitable happened and yet another old wreck made its way over to
Cheadle.
In the end I didn't keep this one long, it was just too knackered. Still, it
furnished a great deal of spares for the A30, so some good came out of it before the
remaining shell was carted off by the local scrap man.
