Wroughton show in August 2006

Details of this new show for the classic car calendar, to be held at the Science Museum at Wroughton, Wiltshire

I want to create a real enthusiasts event. I want to make it a place where people who have only dreamt of or had a passing interest in bikes and cars can come and be with, talk to and see that which they only see or hear about on TV or magazines. They can see they are not museum pieces, they are working, loved, maybe scratched or rusty but still loved and enjoyed. I want to make it a place where real people who have grease permanently under their nails can pass on expertise to those who want to keep their pride and joy running, and where that elusive bit is available or at least can be researched. I want to create an alternative to Beaulieu.

Okay okay this sounds like one of those fairy stories that you hear from time to time, but I am serious. I resent paying £6.50 just to go in, then be confronted with a mass of elitists who only talk to each other and then you have to pay £3.00 for a greasy burger and £1.00 for a luke warm can of fizzy water. That is a lot of money for a small budget level family to afford, and even more if the guy who has that car or bike he loves so much and does not know where to go and then suddenly discovers he is not the only one in the universe who cares about similar inanimate objects.

I am not making any money out of this, the only revenue is from autojumble pitches and caterers to cover the hire of the airfield. The public enter FREE, the clubs apart from a small donation depending on their own budgets for prizes, are free also. There is a lot to do... I would love to have a sponsor which would enable me to pay for some advertising but I am managing ok so far this year. Whoever sponsors the show this year has first refusal next year. I have to say I was surprised at the rude rebuttal I have received from some companies I have approached for sponsorship, but this has made me even more determined to press on alone.

I am amazed at the response I have already achieved in 14 days. Jowett Car Club, Spridgets, All Jaguars Car Clubs (JEC, JDC etc), Daimler Lanchester Owners Club, Renault classic Cars Club, Challenger Club, Spartan club and so far 10 autojumblers... Not bad eh? Add to this a main dealer in new Maseratis, Ferraris Lotus and Porsches is attending and more... but I want more autojumblers, and demonstrators.

Bottom line, this will run and run. It is for the regular vintage and classic, car and bike driver/owner. It will not be a circus or funfair, it will be for people who love their bikes and cars.

In addition to the cars and motorcycles on show, there will be a motor mart, auto jumble, hog roast, concours and many other attractions.
