Transport Festival.Classic car road run and show photos taken in July '05A newish show on the events calendar is this friendly event that takes place across two Cheshire villages.Entrants met up outside the White Lion public house in Hankelow, on the village green, where a cup of coffee and a bacon sandwich were available. A good variety of older vehicle turned up throughout the morning, with a few modern interlopers to vary the view a little. Most of the photographs were taken at this start point prior to the road run, as the vehicles are more spread out than at the destination field in Audlem, where things are a little more compact. We entered my Standard 10 on this event, a car that was built in 1957 and one that I sold a month or two after this year's show, its replacement being a '49 Austin Devon. The 10 was the only Standard car in the show I think. We joined in the classic car run behind the black HRG 2 seater, in the 1950s car section. The drive down to Audlem was very sedate (the road was temporarily closed off by the Police), which meant a lot of clutch slipping for some drivers. It was a very enjoyable little run down the lanes, with no modern cars in sight to spoil the view. Many locals came out to wave and watch the old cars and lorries drive by, and plenty more turned up at the destination in Audlem to have a closer look at the cars on show. All in all a very pleasant day out, hopefully we'll get chance to enter next year. Below are the best of the photos I took during the day. If anyone has photos showing our beige Standard driving down to Audlem, it'd be great to have a copy. Photos from the 2006 Audlem show can be seen here, while more recent photographs of the event, when we entered in our 1930s Morris, are on the Audlem Transport Festival 2011 page.
