Hello guys & gals,
Signed in for the first time this morning.
I am currently restoring a 1935 Austin Seven Ruby ARQ, with photos of progress so far.
It's a bare metal repaint, as when I rubbed sections of the body down, to see what the original shade of blue it was, I found the undercoat peppered with rust that was coming through from the body. I can only surmise that the car had the undercoat applied just before the annual factory holiday, resulting in the cellulose absorbing moisture before final colour - bummer!
Next will be my 1957 A35 2-door, but only minor welding and interior to do.
Then, time permitting, my 1967 Morris Minor 1000 2-door, as A35.
All cars SORNed, although I did drive the Morris for a few months, and forgot just how pleasant it was, my first car was a Low Light, and the Seven for a very short time and it was noisy.
Will keep the Forum updated with progress as and when.
That's it for now folks.
Cheers
Geoff - coffee time

Hi Geoff,

Welcome to the forum.

An interesting set of photos. Your Ruby looks in good sound condition.

Good to have an Austin 7 owner joining up, to help maintain the balance with so many newly-joined Morris 8 owners frequenting the forum Smile

If it's ok with you Geoff, I'll move this into the Your Cars .. Austin section, interesting to see the photos.

Thanks for the welcome all.
No problem Rick. I need to familiarise myself with the Forum layout.
Incidentally, I have now replaced the plastic drain cover with a piece of 3/8" plate, as I had visions of it collapsing under the weight, and that really would have made my day Smile
The casters have been replaced with larger diameter ones, as those in the photo didn't behave themselves on the rough concrete.
Work environment is an enclosed carport.

Geoff - Coffee time once again

That's my kind of detailing. It will be incredibly useful to other restorers when they find your annotated photos.

I like your organised approach..good luck with the restoration, although I think I would call it a renovation, which is a more sympathetic rebuild.

Colwyn500,
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes, renovation would describe it better, as the car did go through a body off re-do not so long ago.
Pity about the rusty undercoat/primer though, but better to catch that now than later.
It is really just cosmetic apart from the repaint, a little work to do in the rear corners of the spare wheel housing and of course getting the sunroof back to working order.
Oh, and a total rewire as well.

Geoff - coffee time once again then gardening

Six months since my first post.
Where the heck has the time gone?!
Been busy sorting an overhead crane for the workshop to lift the heavyish 4-jaw chuck on/off of the lathe, photos on my Photobucket album.
Now busy on the Seven.
Front bodywork removed, revealing a horrid patch that was covered by the n/s fender/mud guard, but will decide what to do once the engine/gearbox are out.
The air was rather blue whilst doing so, as a previous owner used whatever nuts & bolts came to hand, so I was forever searching for suitable spanners.
The larger castor wheels I fitted to the car trolleys have certainly made it much much easier to maneuver the car now.
Have used Biostrip20 to strip paint off of the spare wheel cover, and it does what is says (usual disclaimer) and recommend it without hesitation.
After reading all the negative posts everywhere about stuff that used to be good and now rubbish, I was mot a little sceptical of this water based product, but IT WORKS and works well. Photos uploaded.
Photos of progress will be uploaded soon.

Not a pleasant sight agreed, and certainly NOT suitable for viewing for the faint hearted Shocked
It is, however, most liberating, and the cooling effect most welcome!

Geoff - A darn sight cooler today, so modesty shall prevail.

My ex-ex wife used to cut the grass in her underwear.

Strange how grass will grow in barren, dry and arid areas.

Must be a glutton for punishment to have more than one. Do they know about each other?
