Hi

My bad week has started on Sunday, and pretty much all happened on sunday, started trivial, getting very serious at the end!

I decided to go go kart racing, it rained, so on slicks I kept crashing, and had laptimes that were 40 seconds slower than normal, no fun at all! Waste of money, they should of had some wets, but they didn't. I was also scared of crashing into the others on the circuit as alot of people were using there own karts!! Rolling Eyes

I then followed some signs to do some off road buggy driving, went trough onto the airfield were it is located, and no one was there, another 30 minutes wasted. I had to drive through hundreds of pot holes in the mini, so wasn't happy! I got back to go out on to the road, and some prat had locked us in the airfield!! me and my mate tried to take the gates of there hinges, but they were welded. We then drove around the perimiter of the airfield to look for other gates, no good, they were all securely locked! Rolling Eyes This took a long time, probably getting on for an hour, feeling suitably sheepish, driving arund an active airfield with no authoriseation! Mad

We eventually had to climb over a fence, borrow some push bikes, cycle up the road to a guy, and he luckily had a key, he let us out, that ordeal was about 2 or 3 hours! Evil or Very Mad

Then the worst came! I went to see my bees and got badly stung! Evil or Very Mad

I was driving home before my legs swelled up to badly due to multiple stings, I was right out in the sticks so drove vire places I new where I was. On the way home I decided to drive to the hospital, as I started getting a migrane type headache, and my ears were popping, hundreads of times worse than when on a plane! I got to a well known place and had to pull over, I asked my mate to drive me uninsured to A and E, but he looked at me and we decided to call an ambulance. I could not breath to well by this point, and all of my throat had swelled up, my arms and legs were swelling too! I got hives/nettle rash all over my body and started to get pins and needles in my arms and legs.

There I was stretched out in the mini, bright red and feeling very unwell, the ambulance seemed to take ages to come, but the fast responders came first. He gave me oxygen, and took my blood pressure which was low. Then the proper ambulance came, I stagered into it, still in my bee suit, and had all kinds of gas, nebulizers, injections, and was rushed on blue lights to resus at my local hostpital. I remained conscious so that was good, and boy did the ambulance shift!

I then was released after my blood pressure returned a couple of hours later. I now have to carry epipens around everywhere I go for ever!

Well that is my week so far, wonder what tomorow will bring, god forbid! Crying or Very sad

Cheers

Dave

Bees!!! God I hate things with more than four legs; I am certain they are all out to get me, and they should have been your mates! Hope you have made a full recovery and I realize the bees are essential in the great scheme of things and its lucky that people like you are around to try to "organize" them.

An old American once said to me:' If I didn't have bad luck... I'd never have any luck at all.

Don.

self administered venom antidotes for stings from bees/wasps etc. too many stings over too short a time and you become weakened to them, and will go into shock if stung again, so epinephrine must be carried to avoid anaphylactic shock. dire. very sorry to hear of anyone stung badly.
bees are bad enough but we have vicous bell hornets and yellow jackets that will chase you relentlessly.

Hi

Sounds nasty, did that sting swell up? I won't ask why you were in an old loft space!

Yeah basically epipens are adreneline.

I am not sure how many stings, a felt the first 5 or so, but after that?? I couldn't get my socks on for a few days!

Funny though, I got a reaction, but next time I may not get a reaction, I could get 50 stings and no reaction and then 10 years later have another reaction, it works in weird ways! I and seeing a specialist in August to hopefully be tested to see if it was just the number of stings, or every sting, or maybe it was just one particular bee? God knows, then maybe desentization. I want to keep on beekeeping as I enjoy it, but am scared I will die next time! I will have to make a decision, after seeing this specialist.

This year they were some of my first stings.

Cheers

Dave

These hornets are coming over here and they are desimating the bee colonies, 36 hornets will kill a colony of 60 000 + bees, but the bees have a defense, they can kill them! They will swarm around the hornets, and because they have a higher body temperature than the hornets, they cook the hornets alive! Serves them right in my book! Evil or Very Mad

hehe Laughing

those are Asiatic yellow hornets; very territorial and aggressive. the bell hornets are black and white and while aggressive in defense they have to be annoyed into action. the stereotypical "hornet's nest" is the bell hornet paper ball. i've seen MANY in my life and steer clear of them. the little yellow jackets are hard to detect until you've disturbed a nest; they usually build under ground or beneath ground litter. during harvest they are very distracting...
God gave honeybees a gentler disposition along with their honey; the ability to crowd and smother invading bees and wasps is a recently observed trait IIRC. be glad you don't also have honey badgers to worry about; i saw a programme about them and they are capable of destroying a hive in no time.
