Evening chaps,

I wonder if anyone can help me? I've got a couple of problems on my Somerset that need to be sorted out.

Firstly the ignition/light switch burnt out and stopped working. I have bought a new one from Ebay which should be arriving soon, but I need to swap the original ignition barrel over onto the new switch. Unfortunately I can't work out how to remove it!





Secondly the camber on the front wheels is really strange! Although I've got it jacked up in the photo below it doesn't look much different to that when it's on the ground. The camber should be one degree positive according the the workshop manual, this is at least 5 degrees negative. Can't see anything obviously wrong with the suspension. A fellow Somerset owner suggested to me that the shock absorber arms might be too short, but they look fine to me. All the holes line up and judging by their condition, they've been on there a fair few years.



Any help or suggestions gratefully received!

Richard,

You will need the key for the 'old' barrel. Look at the top of the switch for a hole about an inch from the front of the barrel (around the 12 o'clock position) Push a pin into the hole and depress the spring and withdraw the barrel.

Thank you Art, after a bit of fiddling I've got it out and fitted to the new switch which arrived today. To get it out you have to depress the 'teeth' of the ignition barrel one by one, then it just slides out. I'm still a bit stumped about the wheel camber, although I've got a friend who's going to take photos and measurements of his Somerset shock absorber arms, which might throw some light on the problem.

Right now the most pressing issue is that the new wheel bearing I fitted less than 1000 miles has worn out already So a new one is on order, from a different supplier. The one that wore out was a no-name item, probably made in China. The new one I've got coming is a good quality NOS item. So hopefully it will last.
