The lads I know at Bruntingthorpe are fast taxying their two English Electric Lightning jet interceptors this Sunday, 22nd July 2007 at Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome in Leicestershire. Entry is £12.00 per person and there will also be a Canberra carrying out a couple of runs too. You will also be able to visit the hangar where XH558, the worlds only (soon to be) airworthy Avro Vulcan Bomber is being restored to flight.
It is a good day out and the only place in the UK where you can see two of these magnificent beasts move under their own (considerable) steam. It is the Lightning Preservation Group's only income and they are trying to get a roof over their heads so, gents, if you fancy it, you won't be disappointed...

Spent a day at the end of RAF Thorganby runway, many years ago, just watching Lighnings take off, land and of course.....point at the clouds and climb.
Stunning aircraft, just what an interceptor should be. |

Here we are Gentlemen...
The business end...
XR728 was on static display all day with engine problems...
XS904 was earning her keep today...
Few more of '728...
'904 goes walkies...
Off she goes!!! Has to be seen, heard and FELT to fully appreciate this picture...
As a little treat, turn your speakers up and click this link to see the above Lightning at a show last year. The camera shake is not caused by me...
And of course, the world's only flyable Vulcan bomber. Not long to go now...
